Holy Sepulchre Burial Records On Line

At the end of October, Dick Halsey let us all know about the records being available on line at http://www.holysepulchre.org/. This is a belated note of thanks to Dick for that "heads up" and for all his numerous contributions to the genealogical community of Monroe County.
I have well over a hundred ancestors buried at Holy Sepulchre and I'm keeping busy adding burial information for those I've missed in the past. Be advised though that some records are missing! For example, my great-grandfather Matthew Wambach, buried in old Section 17, Range 6, Tier 1, Grave 29, buried 17 April, 1880 does not show up in their computer database.

NIXON - At the residence of his daughter Mrs. William Granby, No. 92 Curlew street, Sunday morning, December 9, 1917, Hugh Nixon. He is survived by one son, James H. and one daughter, Mrs. William Granby, both of this city. His remains will be taken to Hamilton, Ontario. Canada, Tuesday morning, December 11th, for burial.

daughter was Mary (Nixon) Granby and she is buried in Hamilton, Ontario, but she may have died in Monroe Co., NY

Of course, it's always possible that she was missed in the 1880 census, or that she is in the but with her names being so badly rendered that she is not recognizable

The LDS has the UNINDEXED 1865 census of New York available for free on their website, through the pilot record search project at www.familysearch.org. 1875 is not yet online nor is it indexed.

I am having problems finding Jerusha King in the 1880 census. She died in 1889 and is buried in Blossom Cem. in Hamlin, NY
I have her is 1855 Union, 1860 Union and 1870 in Hamlin,

I wish to see if she is in the 1865, 1875 and 1880 census.

Also three of her girls Louisa born 1843 NY, Sarah born 1846 NY and Harriet born 1850 NY
The last information I have on Sarah and Harriett is the 1860 Union, Monroe Co NY and Lousia only in the 1855 Union Census.

You might try the library's Life Records web site, to search for marriages and children's births, which have appeared in the paper. Marriage records are held back by NYS for 50 years so these extracts from the paper might be helpful

Googling him shows that he may have had a child in Colorado in the 1890s:
Child of Francesca Grant {p. 2^2) and Spencer B. Hord.

and that he may have worked for Kodak as well. The 1910 census shows him as being in a second marriage with an Ethel.

Rochester city directories have death dates from about 1875 to 1960. We have them online here from 1827 to 1930.

Probate records are on file in the local county surrogate's court, and at present they are not available online over the internet. They are supposed to be all indexed and searchable but one must go to the court itself to get any papers that might be on file.

You can order obits that appear in our online Life Records file 1960-date. For this one in 1935, you can write to us and we will search and copy, and either email or US mail a copy of what appeared. There is a 10 dollar non refundable search/copy fee (thank the trustees for that!)

There is an index of the Names from City Directories, 1876-1889 (pdf) -- This 21,199 name index was created from the Rochester city directories of 1876-1889 inclusive. These directories contain the year, names, the (USA style M/D/Y) date of the event, age if given, and notation (e.g. - removed to, or married) exactly as they appeared in the directories. Copies may be made only from the online version of the city directories.

And the newspaper index also has it as 1894.

Knowing that you live in the UK does make a difference. As we have pointed out, the certs are only available from the official offices, and not from archives or libraries. Ordering it from the state in Albany will give you a photocopy of the actual certificate. Ordering from the county will likely get you just an extract.

The 1894 death cert number is # 6124 for Daniel Warner.

We find an entry for an obituary in the newspaper index:
http://www.libraryweb.org/~digitized/newsindex/1851-1897/Ind..., saying that there is an obit in the Union and Advertiser of Feb 6, 1894, page 6 column 2, which is 4 1/2 column inches in length. The papers themselves are not online.

Death certificates can be orders from Monroe County or from NY state. Libraries such as our have indexes to the certificates but the documents themselves must be ordered from the official custodians.

Thanks for the leads. I know the Bieder's that I'm directly related to came to Ohio somewhere between 1861 and 1869 as they were in Ohio in 1870. As with the Hoyt family . they came to Ohio around the same time. My target time line is pre 1860.

Emily Thomas, the great-grandmother of my wife Jane Milliken, had her sister Ella do a genealogy of their family to prove that their daughters were entitle to me members of the DAR. This was successfully done. In her genealogy she has Ambrose S. Thomas, B Dec 25, 1789 (D. Oct. 13, 1878)

He married Mary Smith (B. July 27, 1824 D. 1904)on June 24, 1849

We know of two children. Emily A. Thomas B. Jan 7, 1851
and Ella Thomas.

Emily and Ella married Milliken brothers.

Emily married John B. Milliken Feb 21, 1867

Appreciate your replies. I had seen the report in the Union and Advertiser some time ago. I've tried on line a number of times to obtain the certificate but it doesn't appear to work. I live in the UK so I was hoping maybe someone visiting the archives was able to help. I know the full details of his death, it was the full details listed on his certificate I required. ie his parents etc, to confirm the details I have. Thanks Again.

Hello, Yes I noticed one date as 1893, however it was 1894. Mt Hope were kind enough to send a photograph of the family grave and it does say 5th February 1894. Don't think he would have been too happy being interred as soon as 1893.
