I have a problem that I hope someone can help with. According to the 1871 Canada census, my great grandmother's parents were Elias and Jemima Johnson, residing on the Six Nations reserve near Brantford. Elias and Jemima also appear on the 1861 census.
On the 1851 census, there is an Elias Johnson of the same age, living with William and Catherine Johnson. However, based on other research, I'm pretty sure that this is the Elias Johnson who wrote the history of the Tuscarora and later became a chief on the reservation near Lewiston, and William and Catherine are his grandparents. On the 1861 census, William and Catherines' son Augustus is living with them and I know the Elias from Lewiston had an uncle Augustus.
Elias and Jemima don't show up on any Canadian census after 1871 that I can find. Does anyone know if the author Elias had a cousin or other relative about the same age and with the same name?
