I am a descendant of Fannie Marguerite Williams (often misspelled ‘Fanny’), who was adopted by Enoch W Williams and his wife Mary possibly sometime between 1846 and 1853. They all show up together in Newfane, Niagara, NY on the 1860 census, but Fannie does not appear on the 1850 census with them (doesn’t mean she wasn’t there yet though). Fannie was born between 1843 and 1852 and believed adopted from the Home For The Friendless in NY City (taken from a note on Fannie’s profile by Ida Mae Swedberg).

Do any of you who are descendants of Enoch and Mary Williams have any information about Fannie? There are diaries floating among Enoch’s descendants. Does anyone recall reading in them about Enoch’s adopted daughter Fannie? Can anyone provide me with copies of the diaries?

FYI, thanks to Enoch and Mary’s generosity, Fannie had a good life. She married a Dentist in Missouri She had three children, including my Grandmother. Later she married a Lawyer who became a Judge and moved to Washington State and died in 1937, ten years before I was born. My mother and my daughter both have the middle name “Marguerite”.

There were family stories handed down (originating from Fannie) that I would love to be able to confirm.
