Surnames: Tallman, Southworth
Lorena,
I hope you will be the person who can help me or at least turn me towards the right direction.
I am searching for Egbert Oswald TALLMAN, b 12 May 1830, Bridgewater, Oneida, New York. d.?
Son of Jedediah M. TALLMAN b 20 or 30 Nov 1805, Bridgewater, NY d. 11 Feb 1890, Huntly, Ill and Aurelia Lucretia SOUTHWORTH, b 18 Apr 1806, Bridgewater, NY, d 30 Jun 1885/1886, Ilion, NY.
Egbert was married to Mary Ann ? b.@ 1836, per census records.
Census for 1860 which lists him with wife Mary Ann and son Willie (William, b 22 Aug 1855, Sherburne, NY d.9 April 1935, Utica, NY)
Census for 1870 shows living with parents and son Willie and no Mary Ann. It lists Egbert as widow and now also lists him as blind.
Census for 1880 shows him living with son Willie and daughter-in-law Josephine and their son Homer. Still says widowed and blind. Living next door are his parents Jedediah and Aurelia TALLMAN and his sister Almeda SMITH with her son Warren.
Census for 1890 missing
Census for 1900 has Egbert living in the Oneida Almshouse as an inmate. Not positive it is him, birth month is correct, year is off by one, says blind and widowed. Does list fathers place of birth with incorrect state. There are no other Egberts listed in census.
Census for 1910 has no Egbert TALLMAN in New York
I have his parents back a few generations but he is a challenge.
What happened to poor Egbert Oswald TALLMAN? How did he become blind at such an early age? Why did his family put him in the Almshouse? Did he have mental problems? What happened to Mary Ann and what was her maiden name. I do not have a marriage date either.
Any help is appreciated.....
