Landers from Virginia to Sullivan/Onondaga to Albany

Surnames: Landers,Simpson,Anderson
My G-g-grandfather John J Landers family lived in Virginia. He was born in New York, Sullivan or Onondaga County abt.1820. He married Angeline Hill from Conn.
Can't seem to get further back, but I think that the Landers of Onondaga are his relatives. I can't find him in 1850. Not sure if he was married yet. There were lots of brothers and sisters. Have some info on Benjamin Landers in Onondaga, who I think is a connection. My Great-grandfather was named Benjamin and born in Guilderland.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
