[Obituary of Charles F. Gilcher]
Charles F. Gilcher, 71, practicing optician in this city a half century, died yesterday afternoon in Midtown Hospital after a brief illness. His home was 2154 S. State St.
Mr. Gilcher, a life resident of this city, maintained offices in the State Tower Bldg. He was a member of the Guild of Prescription Opticians of America Inc.
Widely-known in Masonic circles, he was a member of Syracuse Lodge 501, F & AM; Tigris Temple of the Shrine; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; Central City Chapter, Royal Arch Masons, and Central City Commandery 25, Knights Templar.
In addition, the optician was a charter member of Lakeshore Yacht & Country Club, a member of the Cavalry Club and the Syrcuse Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Gilcher was also a past president of the Syracuse District Golf Association.
In the summer of 1959, Mr. Gilcher was honored by the district association for having contributed the most to advance golf here during the previous year.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Laurie Lewis Gilcher; a sister, Miss Linda A. Gilcher, and a nephew, Edward H. Gilcher.
The Rev. Dr. Frank H. Shimer will officiate at private funeral services which will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call at the J. P. Burns & Son Funeral Home tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
