My Relative Emeline Myers was married in 1837 to Chauncey Ashley in Bristol Hollow, Gorham , Ontario. Per the family history she was born in NYC, but I have no proof of this. I am 100% certain she was married in 1837 in Bristol Hollow. I am seeking information about her Myers or Meyers or Myres parents and siblings, who were probably living in Seneca or Phelps or Canandaigua or Gorham township

Possible fathers or brothers are ( could be ?) from the 1830 or 1840 Census are
Peter Myers
Isaac Myers
Horace Myers
Andrew Myers
Henry Myers
Joshua Myers
David Myers
Thomas Myers
Hi,
I'm not sure if we have talked before but I am also descended from Mary Mahala Buckalew and Chauncey Cole through their daughter Harriet Cole. I have some documents about a Chauncey Cole who was in the Mexican war, but not much else. I think he may have died since his wife remarried Jacob Shigley.

I am related to John and Lois Ashley, through their son Chauncey Ashley. I have a picture of his wife Emeline Myers Ashley, but none of Chauncey Ashley or of Lois ? Ashley Willet. I've seen pictures of Nelson Ashley from the Hillsdale book and Charles's from his Obit. Chauncey Ashley , along with his son John Bell Ashley died in the Civil War.

We are stuck on John Ashley parentage . We found a Naturalization certificate for a John, but the dates don't match.

And I like every one else find the available Lois Goodrich data doesn't fit. I did find this possibility for Lois ? Ashely Willet. From the Barbor Birth collection there a Lois born 1794 in Berlin, CT

NAME Lois Gridley
Gender: Female
Birth Date: 15 Feb 1794
Birth Location: Berlin
Parent Name: Abel

There is a Ancestry.com tree with this family but no much detail Father Abel dies in 1824 in Manlius, NY with a Mother named Rhoda Hill. But I don't have any more proof.

I am also trying to locate the parents of Chauncey Ashley's wife Emeline Myer/ Emeline Meyer. Who also likely lived in Phelps/Canandaigua are in the 1830's.

Any of the above helpful ? or do you have any info that might help me fill in a blank or 2 ? Thanks

I found a note to myself that Aaron Taylor died intestate. His letters of administration began on Nov. 13, 1819 in Ontario county. My problem is that years and years ago I was copying down this information I got from the LDS family history center and now I can't find the film I had found this information on. I have since ordered probate index films and there is no Aaron Taylor probate listed. Can anyone give me an idea of where I could find his probate?
Thank you

Re: The Family of Joseph VanVleck and Hester Francisco

Edwin Van Vleck (1854-1936) was my great-grandfather. Edwin was born in Franklin Co, Tennessee and died in Howell Co, Missouri. His parents were Abraham Van Vleck (1824-1863) and Jemima Kyle (1825-1854) who were married 1847 in Montgomery Co, Ohio.
According to family lore, Jemima died about 3 months after Edwin was born. Abraham married Emma/Emily Jones before 1860. Abraham and family are listed on the 1860 federal census for Franklin Co, TN. Abraham was the county surveyor for Franklin Co. Abraham was an artillery officer in the Confederate Army and was killed in the battle of Chickamauga (19 Sep 1863). He was in Carnes's Battery and is mentioned in the despatches.
Edwin's brother Marvin Gage Van Vleck was b. about 1848 in Indiana and died about 1881 in Illinois. Trucilla Wright Van Vleck was b. about 1851 in Ohio and died between 1930 and 1936 in New York. She was married to Charles Henry Chase. I think Mr and Mrs Chase are buried in Hillside Cemetery in Yates Co, NY.
In the 1840 federal census "Michael Vanblake" is listed in Macedon, Wayne, NY. James Van Vleck is also listed there with tick marks that could be Joseph and Abraham in his household. In the 1850 federal census James and Joseph are listed near each other in Addison, Steuben, NY. Michael Vanvleck is listed on an 1842 Wisconsin state census in Milwaukee Co and Michal Van Vleck was listed in Manitowoc Co, WI in 1850.
Not much, but just in case....Lucy is in 1840 Phelps, Ontario and in 1850 Phelps age 55 b NY with Cornelia, age 25 b NY. Perhaps Lucy did not marry again. I did find a Lucy Dillon age 65 b NY with a Jane Dickerman age 38 b NY and her family in Troy, Renssselaer NY in 1860....no way to connect of course.

In 1830 Phelps, Thomas has 1 male 5-10, 1 male 10-15, 4 males 20-30, 1 male 30-40 (Thomas) and 1 female 5-10 (Cornelia ?), 2 females 10-15, 2 females 20-30 & 1 female 30-40 (Lucy)

Looked for some Dillon males in the area in 1850 but only found one - William. Further search seems to indicate that he was a son of Benjamin tho. Where did they all go (?) I thought since Lucy's siblings seem to have ended up in Steuben & Alleghany maybe Lucy went there too & had no luck or in finding Cornelia anywhere either after 1850.

In 1840 Phelps Lucy has 1 male 15-20 & 1 male 20-30, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 20-30 & 1 female 30-40.

Perhaps Lucy is buried with Thomas after all....my family had no headstones because they simply couldn't afford them & there's no record of some of them at the funeral home either even tho we know they are there.

Was Lucy d/o Daniel & Rosannah Fuller?
LEWIS with Native American strain, late 1700's

My ancestor Elizabeth LEWIS was born c. 1770, acc. to the 1850 Steuben County census, in Orange County, NY.

Acc. to Steuben County histories, she married Andrew SMITH(1761-1837), from Lockerbie area of Dumfriesshire Scotland in 1795. "Muckle" Andrew SMITH was one of the founders of Bath, NY in the company of men headed by Col. Charles WILLIAMSON, renowned developer in the area of the Finger Lakes, as agent for the Pulteney Estate in England.

I have some pictures of the childen of Elizabeth and Andrew, and they clearly exhibit Native American characteristics. My great-uncle asserted the claim that his grandmother Eliz. did have some Native ancestry. There is some indication that she also had some German and/or Dutch ancestry; and maybe also some British.

I have a note by a researcher that states "Andrew and Elizabeth were married at Old North Church in 1795." No further info.

I have found that there was an Old North Church in both Sussex and Bergen Counties, NJ, which counties adjoin Orange County, NY. I have found the marriage records of the two churches on-line but do not find their marriage; maybe they are incomplete or perhaps neither is the right Old North Church.

Is there an Old North Church in existence in 1795 in any of the many settlements made by Williamson----or settlements with no connection to Williamson.

If of any clues to the Lewis side, Eliz. and Andrew's children all born in Bath and all surnamed SMITH: Charles A., born 1796, married Azilla Morgan; Maria, born 1799, married Dominick QUIN; John JOHNSON/JOHNSTON born 1802, married Jane RUTHERFORD; Andrew Jr., married Maria DOYLE; Nancy H., born 1809 married Andrew SMITH(same name as her father!); and Elizabeth, born 1811, married James RUTHERFORD.

My quest is for the parents and ancestry of Elizabeth Lewis Smith. If anyone has any information, surmisals, or suggestions I would be extremely grateful. Is/are their any researchers who are experts in Williamson and his paper record that might shed some light. The county histories say that Andrew Smith and Williamson were family friends from Scotland.

Thanks in advance.
Jerry Brosious
Stillwater, Minnesota

He is buried at his home in Williams CO, OH. His father was born in Vermont, and mother in New Jersey, and I know from census that the mother's name was Mary (Polly). SHe remarried a Mr Lyon, and is buried in Williams CO, OH. She had six sons and one daughter. Does this match with your information?

Bob McCartney

Looking for obit or newspaper account for the death of Frank O Murdoff, who is buried in Marion, Wayne County. He died in Canandaigua, Ontario County, NY on July 20, 1918. But I know he was born in Marion and is buried in Marion. He had a daughter, Lulu, real name was Lucy Louise Murdoff Dingman who was born in 1880. I believe she was divorced and so may have a different last name. Trying to find out what happened to her. Any suggestions appreciated. I thought Frank lived in Marion at time of death, so interested to see if death was accident or something.
They are stopping here at present. Where they intend to make their future home we know not, but they have our best wishes for success in life.
1891 envelope from Chapinville to England

I recently found a photograph an old envelope that was sent to England from Chapinville, New York in 1891. You can see the envelope on www.philgen.org (search on Chapinville, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page), or click on the link below. I am unable find a census (or similar) reference to EA ROOT in Chapinville and wondered if someone more familiar with the area can find a reference. I believe that England may be the birthplace of EA ROOT (or his/her parents) and this envelope will be helpful to someone in their genealogical research. The reason I have a photo of the envelope is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy (available at the philgen website) and have started the philgen website. I do not know if the letter that was in the envelope still exists.

Here is a direct link to the photo of the envelope: http://philgen.org/index.php?option=com_fabrik&c=form&am...

Elnathan REYNOLDS is my Great Grand Uncle. His brother Adelburt Lewis REYNOLDS is my great grand father. There was also another brother named Edward. They are the sons of Lewis b. c1810 and Rachel (CASE) REYNOLDS. He was a wagonmaker.
Lewis and Rachel died in 1853 and 54 and are buried in the Gunn Cemetery on Whalen Rd. Which is located I believe in East Bloomfield, Ontario Co., NY. Adelburt ended up in Michigan and lived with the name Lewis A. REYNOLDS. He married Dilley (Della) HORTON on 4 September 1876. He died in 1930 in Dec. There are two obits one on the 8th and 1 on the 11th. They are very sketchy on info. It listed only one daughter Minnie May REYNOLDS Peckham Roy and they said it was his sister. He had five children w Della. Minnie was the eldest and my grandmother Crystal REYNOLDS Francis was the youngest. 2 are missing from any thing other than early census. Lewis E. and Avah. His son Edward married Jessie E. Bliss Fisk. Daughters Minnie and Crystal ended up in Montana then on to Washington.,

I would love to have you contact me. I was given the name of another Paul J. and his email but was not contacted back as yet and am anxious to hear more on this family.

1840 Census Lookup - White Family - Cheshire, Ontario

I am looking for information on the family of Ellen White, b 25 NOV 1836, Cheshire, Ontario, NY.

According to her death certificate her parents were George White and Ellen Wilson b abt 1809.

I've confirmed her mother's first name but her death certificate is the only source for her father's first name so I'm taking his with a grain of salt.

I know he was dead in 1841 because his widow Ellen remarried that year in Rochester, Monroe, NY, so he may have been alive in 1840 or Ellen may be listed as a widow that year.

Her brother was George White, b JUN 1839. There may have been an older sister.

Am looking for her family in the area in the 1840 census.

Thanks for any help.
Do you have any info on Elizabeth, wife of William Decker in Ontario Co.,NY? He has a will dated 1806. Would you happen to know the maiden name of this Elizabeth? I am researching the John Decker family in Ontario Co., who later migrated to Lenawee Co., MI with my ancester Humphrey Davenport. There seems to be a connection between these families, but I am still trying to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Joseph Bristol of Victor, Ontario, New York, b. 1809

I am seeking any information about the ancestry of Joseph Bristol, who was born 15 September, 1809. His place of birth is uncertain: on censuses it is variously listed as New York, Massachusetts, or 'unknown'.

He is living in Victor, Ontario County, New York from at least 1840 where he remains until his death in 1874. He is buried in Rochester, NY. His occupation is listed as 'farmer'.

He was married to a woman called Mary (maiden surname unknown), who was born in 1812, and has at least 4 children: Levi (b. 1837), Mary (b. 1848), my ancestor Herbert (b. 1850), and Edmund (b. 1854). The fact that he names his eldest son Levi may possibly suggest that his own father's name was Levi, but this is just guesswork.

I realize that this is a bit of a shot in the dark, but if I can get back one more generation perhaps I can tie my line into the Bristol line of CT that has already been much worked-on. Many thanks.

Am searching for information on Walter Duhnam born abt 1800 died 1837, buried in Hopewell Pioneer Cemetery. I believe he is the husband of by 4th Great Grandmother. A Mrs. Caroline Dunham married John Warfield on 1 Oct 1842 in Heuvelton, Ontario, NY. Caroline had 2 children from previous marriage, Spencer Dunham born Jan 1834 in NY and Ely Walter Dunham born abt 1837 in NY. Ely's marriage record stated that his father was Walter Dunham.

My question is how does the Walter Dunham fit in with the 5 other Dunham's buried in Hopewell Pioneer cemetery. Could Timothy Dunham died 13 May 1831 ae 70, be his father? And then could George died 1813, Otis died 1811, Spencer died 1816 and Thomas died 1817 be his brothers? I have checked all available databases and can find no record of children for Timothy Dunham. I have found several family trees with information that Timothy had 2 sons, Theodore and Charles. They say that his wife was Lydia Smith. Does anyone have any records from Hopewell Cemetery that could verify the Dunham's buried there as family?
