Classification: Query
Surnames: DOWNING
Looking for ancestry pedigree.

Andrew Jackson Downing; b. 30 Oct 1815 Newburgh, d. 28 Jul 1852 nr Yonkers in sinking of steamer Henry Clay. Horticulturist. m. 1838 Caroline de Windt of Fishkill Landing (now Beacon).

Charles; b. 1802 Newburgh, d. 1885. Horticulturist. m. 1830 Mary Wait, who d. 1880.

Father of above brothers: Samuel Downing; b. 1761 or 1757 probably in MA, d. 1 Nov 1822 probably in Orange Co. m. Eunice (Bridge?) or Susanna Brown.

Other children: Emily, b. 1801, m. Sylvester Ferry; George Washington, b. 1804, d. 1846, m. Emily Antoinette Starr.

Confusion factor: There were (at least!) two Samuel Downings in this period, both born in MA, both connected with Orange Co., both married women named Eunice, both had sons named George Washigton.

Wrong: Samuel Downing, b. 30 Nov 1761 Newburyport, MA, d. 19 Feb 1867 Edinburgh, Saratoga, NY (æ 107y!); m. Eunice George, b. 1766 NH, d. 1851 Edinburgh. He received his military discharge in Newburgh.

Looking for correct vitals for this family, and for their Downing ancestry.
