Charles C. Van Brunt. born 1829 Orange Co. NY (married Zillah Van Gelder 1856)

I am looking for information on the parents of Charles C. Van Brunt. The middle initial C is thought to stand for Cumming. He was born in Orange County, New York, in 1829. According to a biographical sketch he attended "the country school". He operated tow boats on the Erie canal and worked on farms. By 1856 he was in Illinois where he married to Zillah Van Gelder. He then pioneered in Western Wisconsin.

Any help in tracking down the parentage of Charles C. Van Brunt is greatly appreciated.

Written on the back:

"M Addie Cuddeback"

I see an Adaline Cuddeback in Orange Co NY in 1870 wife of Harmonus Cuddeback. Her maiden name might have been Adeline Chapman .

I also see an Ada Cuddeback wife of Cornelius Cuddeback. Her maiden name might have been Adelle A Case. Perhaps she is one of these two women.

Joecan

Does anyone know anything about a William Holmes, b1772 in Newburgh, who married Mary Wyatt. Their children were David, William, Thomas and Daniel. A ship's carpenter, he is sometimes referred to as "Deacon William Holmes." Later he moved to Susquehanna County, PA, where he died. Would like to correspond with anyone who has knowledge of the Holmes and Wyatt families in Newburgh in the late 18th century.
I found an extensive newspaper article for an ancestor who was killed in the middle of the night by getting hit by a train along the tracks in Goshen. The article was very detailed, but also raised many questions about the circumstances that led to this man being found dead along the train tracks. Does anyone know if there is a way to access the Goshen police files for 1907? or if I could get a death cert directly from the town of Goshen? Any help or direction in getting some more info is greatly appreciated.

I am researching the antecedants and descendants of my ggg grandparents, William and Priscilla CAIRNS, Wallkill, NY. William (1765-1836) emmigrated from Scotland abt 1801. I am looking for Priscilla's (1781-1847) parents. Priscilla's brother, William, unmarried, died abt 1851.

Robert CAIRNS (1807-1874) is the only son of William and Priscilla who remained in Orange Co. Robert married Frances PELTON 15 FEB 1843. They had 4 children who survived to adulthood, Charles Woodward (1847-1915), John Tuthill (1849-1907), Mary (1861-?) and Clara (1863-?). Clara m. Thomas Everett LEE 12 SEP 1883.

Letters sent from Robert CAIRNS and his brother in Wallkill to their brothers, John V CAIRNS and George W CAIRNS in Wisconsin indicate that Priscilla ANDERSON CAIRNS was related to an Elan (Ellen, Eleanor?) ANDERSON (d. 29 DEC 1854), "cousin" Sary (Sara?) SATTERLY, William SATTERLY in NYC and Jane ANDERSON (married in DEC 1856).

Letters from E (Elliot) A COLEMAN and Nelson B MAPES, Orange Co. to George W CAIRNS in WI are included in the family collection. E A COLEMAN bought Robert's farm abt 1855.

I would be glad to share info I have with anyone who is also researching these lines.

Thomas F. Dougan died at the age of 79 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg, NC and is buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Montgomery, Orange, NY.

Thomas was born in either Wyoming or Erie county, NY but relocated with his father and siblings after his mother’s death, sometime between 1900 and 1910. In 1910, he is found in Crawford (probably Bullville). He married Winifred McCarroll of Thompson Ridge in 1916.

Are records available for St. Mary’s Cemetery? I’m hoping to find records for other family members, especially his father, Hugh Cormick Dougan, b. abt 1857, death date unknown.

Any clues would be greatly appreciated.
Catholic Cemeteries in Orange County

Hello All,
I'm trying to compile a list catholic cemeteries and bried information about them such as approximately year they opened, location/directions, brief descrition and any other details.

Known to me:

St. Patrick's: Opened 1850. Catholic burials prior to 1850 occured in the Newburghs "Old Town Cemetery". Approx 30 catholics are known to be buried there. St. Patricks is located on the corner of Rt. 9W and Broadway, in the heart of Newburgh, NY.

Calvary: Opened March 1898. Catholics from all over the USA are buried here. Calvary is the 'newer' St Patrick's Church cemetery. Many families decided to be buried in Calvary over the older St Patrick's. St Pats is much smaller, thus Calvary can hold many more. Calvary is located on the corner of Quassaick Ave;Rt 94 and Rt 9W on the norther edge of New Windsor just before heading into Newburgh.

St. Thomas: Cornwall Located across the street from the Cornwall Highschool. Even though I have relatives buried their I know little about it. Best guess is that opened about 1890s to 1900. Sorry.

St. Francis: New Windsor Located on Windsor Highway between Rt 94 and Union Ave, across from Woodlawn Cemetery.
Even though I grew up down the street from it, I don't know much about its origin. Best guess is that opened up somewhere around 1930s.

PS If you are searching for pictures of headstones for loved ones try :Find a grave" for Orange County
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=csr&CScnty...

Would love to hear were other Orange County Catholic Cemeteries are located and info about them.

Sincerely,
Joe Whalen
pool.trickshots at comcast dot net
Illenberg, Gray, King, McElroy families in Orange Co.!!

I am new to the list. My major research interest is the Illenberg(er) family who descended from Frederick Illenberg who emigrated to Orange Co. from Nattheim, Wuettemberg in 1854. I have extensively researched this family and have much information to share. Various members of the family married into the Gray branch, who descended from John Gray of Lloyd's Neck, Long Island, into the King family branch descendent from John King born in Canada in 1757.and into the McElroy branch who descended from Alexander McElroy born in Monroe.

I am also interested in Matthew COSTELLO, born 8/15/1863 in Goshen, who married Catherine Teresa RILEY, also born in Goshen 4/9/1865. They had 12 children and lived in Middletown until their deaths in the 1920's. I am interested in their marriage record, their Irish heritage and Matthew's mother, Honora O'Loughlin.

Any interest and information will be welcomed and gladly reciprocated.

George S. Both Abraham and his eldest son Elnathan served in the Revolution in Crane's Regiment from Westchester County. According to a deposition by Elnathan, the family moved from the Stamford, CT area to Bedford, Westchester Co about 1760 and were living there at the outbreak of the Revolution. The family located to Orange County after the Revolution. Abraham and Lydia were living in Minisink Township in the 1800 census, but can't find them after. The 12 children married into the Rockwell, Manning, Fuller, Corwin, Writer and Van Tuyle families. Cannot find a will in Orange County for Abraham Rundle.

I'm trying to learn more about a John BROWN who is in the 1860 and later censuses with wife, Margaret, at Goshen. His place of origin in the 1860 census is given as County Antrim in Ireland. What I'm trying to learn is whether he might have been a brother of my husband's ancestor, Mary BROWN, who married John Jacob WEAVER/ WEBER in Hamptonburgh in 1858.

According to the US Census, they lived in Montgomery, Orange County, New York in 1920. I would appreciate any help that I can obtain. Thanks very much.

I'm trying to learn what churches, most likely Episcopal or Presbyterian existed in the area of Goshen and Hamptonburgh in the 1860s and 1870s and where their records are now.
I know that my husband's gggm Mary BROWN married John Jacob WEAVER/ WEBER at the Presbyterian Church in Campbell Hall in 1858, but the records of that church do not contain the baptism of their son, John A. WEAVER, b. 1859 or his death in 1876, nor of Mary's second marriage to Jospeh GROFF/ GRAFF between 1865 and 1870. I'm hoping that records of another church in that geographic area may hold some part of that family history.

Any Children Born To Mary Theresa McCabe Goggin(s) in The 70's

Seeking any children born to Mary Theresa Goggin in Newburgh NY or Middletown, NY. Orange County handled the adoption of my brother, but I don't have a name for him, and I allegedly have a set of twin siblings as well. SO please anyone with information, please email me back. Mary''s birth name was Mccabe, so that may be on their birth certificate. We are desperately seeking our siblings to reunite, but more importantly due to medical emergency. I have a question, why is NY so stingy with information? You can look on other states websites like texas, and see who was born and when? What do we need to do get laws passed to open these records to make public?

Who is Emma Teachman born 1780 in New Jeresy? Where did she reside in 1850? Is she a sister of Elizabeth (Teachman) Schriver?

In 1860, she resided with Caspar & Eliza Schriver. See census below.

1860 United States Federal Census
Name: Emma Teachman
Age in 1860: 80
Birth Year: abt 1780
Birthplace: New Jersey
Home in 1860: Warwick, Orange, New York
Gender: Female
Value of real estate: View image
Household Members: Name Age
Casper Schriver 65
Eliza Schriver 58
Emma Teachman 80

Eliza Schriver (age 58 in the 1860 census) was believe to be the daughter of Aaron Morse (b about 1770 - d bef 1850) and Elizabeth Teachman? (b about 1765 - d after 1855). It might be possible that Elizabeth Teachman is the "Betsy" Teachman daughter of David Teachman (b 1738) who supposedly married an Indian woman.

Quackenbush - Warwick, NY
Charles B. Quackenbush of Warwick, Orange Co, NY, Married Emma J. Lockwood, daughter of Jonas Lockwood and Mary Smith. They had two children that I know of, Pauline b 1880, and Mary (AKA Mae) b 1895. Charles was the son of Cornelius Quackenbush and Elizabeth (last name unknown) It appears that Cornelius was the son of David Quackenbush and Leah Kip.

Mary married my Grandfather, Frederick Scott Probst.

Pauline married John Rone, who was a barber for many years in Warwick. I'm told the name Rone was changed from Ronowski.

I have some other information if needed.
