I have some questions about a Sylvanus Coan b:1819 in Parish,Oswego Co. NY.His father was also Sylvanus Coan b: 28 Oct 1778 in Guilford CT. he had 4 wives and son Sylvanus was by his wife Polly Hough. Sylvanus (1819) appears in USC 1850-1870 in Parish with a wife named Catherine b:1823 NY. Before 1880 evidently he died and his wife Catherine appears with her daughter and a son in law named Thadius Kellogg again in Parish NY.
Based on my Weatherwax reserach from a death certificate for Catherine S. Coan who died in Michigan in 1903, and the Wills of both her father and mother; she is identifed in all documents as Catherine Coan. Since she does not appear in USC for known counties in MI I started from her home in Schohaie co NY and believe now she may have been the wife of Sylvanus Coan (1819-b1880) Various sketchy online trees
sometime identify him as Sylvanus Hugh Coan without firm family data. But clearly his wife was Catherine and he appears several pages from his father in the USC1850 for Parish,Oswego Co NY.
