In 1880 census I found Sarah listed now as Adams, widow, with a 7 year old grandson named Louis R Adams, born Calif plus her 4 grown children. Sarah was the widow of Robert Ludington (sometimes spelled with 2 DDs) who died in 1860.

I could not figure out how Louis could be her grandson. Did she actually remarry someone named Adams? Don't think so as I found her listed as Ludington in the Troy 1890 directory.

Louis died in Dec 1882, is buried at New Mt Ida Cemetery & the terrific burial transcriptions from Tory list his father as JAMES. Can anyone help me piece this together? Thanks.
