Thank you for posting. I am also doing research on this very special school. My mother has had such fond memories of attending this boarding school in upstate New York. She would always tell me that "these were the best years of my life". My mother Nieves Rosario and sister Julia Rosario were schooled here from early 1930's to High School. My mother was born in 1927 and from Puerto Rico. Her mother (my grandmother) could not afford to support her two younger children. My mother was blessed to have such a beautiful place to grow and learn. We grew up singing all the old songs and hearing delightful tales of the loving, and sometimes stern "house mothers". My mother's favorite teacher was the nature teacher named "Miss Jane". My mother always had a desire to write a book about this sanctuary of a place. I also have plenty of photos if you would like me to share. Do you have a Facebook page? My email is MarnyRenteria@aol.com. I was born 1966. My mother had a total of six children. She is now almost 86 in August. Sadly, she has Alzheimer's and cannot recall too much of the past. Let me know if I can help you further. All My Love

Hi Brian,

My name is Debbie Morgenstern, I live in NYC, and my Mother was born in Rymanow Poland just before WW2. My Mother's Maternal Grandmother was Faige Sheindel Markel, and she was married to Yaakov Elimelech Beil and my Mother's Mother, my Grandmother was her eldest daughter named Gittel/Giza Beil Goldschein, married to Yosef Zvi Goldschein.
I'm the family 'historian', although I'm quite new at doing research... and I'm in the midst of researching our Markel Family. We know that Adolf Markel was my Great Grandmother's brother and that he had settled in Wilmington, Delaware when he came to the USA. Adolf and my Great Grandmother and their other brother, Binem/Binyomen Markel who was married to Faige Bucher (in Rymanow) -- he and his wife and daughters perished during WW2... Thank G-d, their 2 sons Matis(yahu) and Avraham did survive vthe war and made it to Israel after the war. My Great Grandmother and my Great Great Uncle Adolf Markel also had at least 3 sisters and they were all, as well as their Father -- who was Matisyahu Markel -- born in Rymanow. I believe that their Mother's name was Chana and I would love to find out what her Maiden name was, and if she too was also born in Rymanow or not.. Rymanow was, at certain points in history, considered as a part of Poland, and at other points was considered as a part of the Austria/Hungary Empire as the borders kept changing... I'm not as of yet a member of ancestry.com, and thereby wasn't able to contact you directly. So it also listed that you've also posted through here and therefor, I am leaving a message for you in here. My Great Great Grandmother and her brother, my Great Great Uncle Adolf Markel also had 2 sisters here in the USA, one (or both) lived in Perth Amboy, NJ and at some point my family was in touch with them however then, at some point my family lost track of them approximately 20 years ago. I am wondering if you know their names as well as their descendants names and how to reach their children too. There was also a son of their youngest Markel sister who sadly perished during WW2, however her son Elias Beil did survive the war and made it to the US and married a woman named Judy and they lived in Philadelphia and I believe they had a daughter and a son. I discovered that Elias Beil passed away approximately 2-3 years ago, prior to my beginning to search for our family. His wife Judy might still be alive, although when I did try to reach her over the phone during this past year, I kept missing her.... My Mother and her young brother and parents and her Aunt Basia and Uncle Sruel/Irwin and her Great Grandmother Faige Sheindel Markel Beil were sent as prisoners to Siberia by the Russians, after the escaped from the nazis in September 19i39 at the early part of WW2, and then during the 2nd part of WW2 and they were allowed to settle in a warmer area and went to Kazakhstan until the end of the war. After the war, my Great Grandmother and her son Irwin got into the USA and settled in the Bronx, where my Grandmother's 2 sisters lived -- 2 of my Great Aunts: Dayenne and Molly -- who were both lucky to be sponsored by Adolf in 1938 and emigrated to the US in 1938, approximately a year before WW2 began.... I look forward to hearing from you and would greatly appreciate finding out about our 'lost' relatives. My email address is: debdebnyc36 @ yahoo... Bye for now... All the best, Debbie

I need some information - location of a Roman Catholic Church.
This is what Abon Kearney's marriage announcement said:
Mr. Abon Kearney, of Tomkins Cove, and Miss Kate Peters, formerly of this place, but now of New York city, were married in the 51st R.C. church on Monday afternoon.
(Haverstraw, Rockland County Times, Volume 0000000, January 13, 1894, Page 8.)
Marriage Date: 8 January 1894

I have no idea where the 51st R.C. Church is located. I assume in New York City; could not find the church there.
Any help would be appreciated.
I am also looking for the obituary or date of death for Abon Kearney's mother, Mary A. Kearney. Her husband, Michael Kearney, passed away in 1896. I can no longer find Mary A. Kearney in the 1900 census.
Again, any help would be appreciated.
Ellen Chavez

My Great Aunt Julia Kelly (aka Lulu) was an inmate there in 1930. Family all knew that she had some type of disability, but no more details than that.

Julis was with her family in the 1920 census and Letchworth in the 1930 census. She died in 1930. At first I thought that she died in Westchester county where her family was and could never locate her death certificate. I found her obit and it mentioned Haverstraw but said that she died at the home of her sisiter (in Mount Vernon) after a lingering illness. The obit had some info flip-flopped so I'm thinking that she might have died in Rockland County. Fortunately, Julia was buried in a family grave elsewhere. I think that her family did care for her. I hope that her stay at Letchworth was short. If anyone knew of my Aunt, I would love to hear from you.

I am trying to find Frank Beasley Born 1832 in Brooklyn New York. He has been listed as a Captain. He lived in Matthews Va and married Elizabeth Hurst and had a daughter Susan Frances. He later married in Gloucester Va to a Virginia E. Huel. He also has listed with him in census an Israel Dupuy B. 1812 in New York. Israel is listed witha Elizabeth Dupuy B 1791 in Richmond Staten Island New York. I have not been able to find anything on Frank in New York. I believe these two were friends in New York and may have ventured to Va. It is possible that Frank was the Captain of a boat that traveled to Va from New York. If you have any information you may email me at ejpw35@gmail.com. I appreciate any help in advance....

I am Jennie's & Al's youngest child, Judi. I've been serching many years for some remains of family. Your grandfather was my Uncle Charles (Chappy) and married to my Aunt Florence. Do you have an Aunt Joan who was Jennie's godchild? Write, if you feel we are related and can pass any info to me.
This was written on "Genealogy Tip of the Day." Please read the bottom sentence.

The Problem With Data Entry
Genealogical databases sometimes want us to know more than we do and encourage us to conclude more than may be actually implied in the record. An estate settlement from the 1870s indicated that the deceased was survivied by the children of his sister--and then it goes to name her two sons and one daughter.

The sons have the same last name and the daughter is listed being married.

Nowhere in the records is it stated that the daughter is the full sister of the two sons. They easily could have been half siblings and the court would not have cared.

Be careful when doing data entry that you do not enter more than the record states.

When you are introducing your own personal preference without notation, you are introducing an element that has no basis in fact. This may be confusing to others. Perhaps you can take the time to write out, "John S., son of John S. Suffern." Surely this would not take too long.

The John S. Suffern Ted Hester is discussing lived in Elmira, NY. He was descended from John Suffern, patriarch who settled in what now is known as Suffern, NY. His daughter Elizabeth married her cousin from Ireland, John S. Suffern in 1797. They moved to Tioga County, NY/Elmira circa 1801, to manage her father's vast land holdings there.

Their son, probably another John S. Suffern was born about 1804.

Steve Burton's John S. Suffern is descended from John Suffern through his son Andrew's child Peter. Very confusing group we are!!

Debbie,
Here is the close-up of your uncle's name on the plaque at the Letchworth Cemetery: George W Burchell. There was a lot of snow on the ground and it was pretty cold, but I took closeups of all the names on the plaque. I'm not sure if anyone else is interested in those, or how to post them all if that's what makes most sense. I also took a few photos from further away for perspective. Your Uncle George is the 11th name down from the top of the 3rd column.

This was my first trip to the cemetery and although it is a beautiful setting, it made me very sad. The numbered metal T's are so inhuman.

In Gratitude,
Pete

I have a 6 page family tree with 4 generations of descendants of Vincent Cyr that I attached to this reply in a JPG format, probably not the best for printing. Can you send me your direct email address and I will mail you a PDF version? (They don't allow PDF versions to be attached.) Mine is mvan26(the at sign)gmail.com The reason for the using the "code" (the at sign) is they may strip out email addresses so that non-members don't communicate off line.

When you review the trees any changes or questions welcomed. The name Cyr, Cyr-Miquelon, Miquelon are interchangeable as you probably already know.

I would love to see what you have and share it with my mom. PDFs would work best. Thank you very much!
The birth date you quote for Timoreon sounds possible (I can't comment on the 'Louis'). Family lore is that he came west at the age of 18 just before the second rebellion. I know that the 10th of his 13 children (Cordelie) was born in 1900. So I think those dates could work.
I'm certain that his wife was Oledin though. They had a granddaughter named Olivine (possibly a daughter as well.)
