My GGGrandparents were married in Waddington, NY in 1877, according to the Family Bible. I have no idea what church they would have married at, but would like to obtain a copy of their marriage certificate or registration.
Can anyone tell me how I can do this?

They were:

John William H Cooper, born 1853 in England and he married Permelia (Amelia) Elizabeth Barkley born 1860 in Winchester Springs, Ontario.

Marriage took place: June 6, 1877 in Waddington, New York.

Can anyone either help with looking up the above mentioned or point me in the right direction as to how to obtain this information? I am hoping to obtain parentage for John William Cooper.

Many thanks
Lisa

George Wilson of Louisville, Civil War Vet

George was a son of William and Jane Wilson of Louisville. According to the 1850 census he was born in 1845.
I have located civil war enlistment info that may be him:

George Wilson enlisted in Civil War on 2/25/1862 at Potsdam, NY as a Pvt. at age 17
On 2/25/1862 he mustered into "A" Co NY 92nd Infantry
He was discharged for disablility on 4/25 1864 at New York, NY
New York: Report of the Adjutant General.

The census age and civil war age matches yet I can't be certain that this is my George. Perhaps he didn't return to Louisville. Any hints or leads as to where to look next would be appreciated as I can't find anything more on him.
I am trying to find some information on Joseph Rounds who was born around 1848 in the Town of Oswegatchie. He married a Margaret Kay. I think I found his father Horace Rounds who married a Ruth Fletcher who lived in Canton according to the 1860 census. I am trying to find any death/burial dates and where they are buried.
The other side of the family is my great grandfather Ebenezer (Eben) Burrows who was born in Russell in 1847 and married an Emeline. I know his mother's name was Matilda but have no idea what his father's name was. I am trying to find his father's name.

New Cemeteries Online

Well folks, I'm back for another summer of transcribing cemeteries. I've added 6 new cemeteries to my website so far. Those new cemeteries are: Bay Road (Town of Fowler), 1812 Soldiers Gravesite and Cooks Corners (both in Town of Pierrepont), Pinney (Town of Edwards), St. Therese (Town of Lawrence), Old Pioneer (Town of DeKalb). As always, my webpage is located at:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~stlawgen/index.HTM

I have also completed inventories of Pierrepont Hill, Garrison, North Russell, South Potsdam, and Sunny Rest (Kent Mills). I hope to have them online soon.

I would also like to make sure everyone is aware of a great resource for cemetery research. The site is:

http://www.findagrave.com

I have put copies of all my inventories over on that site (I'm still working on getting all the photos moved over). I don't plan to give up my current site as it has some advantages such as being able to group people by burial plots, but Find-a-grave also has neat advantages. One of the most important is that in addition to the grave photos, people can also post biographies, pictures, "virtual flowers", etc for the individuals. You can also request grave photos for people by creating a memorial for them and clicking on "request photo". There are volunteers across the county who work to fill the requests.

Anyways, I recommend checking it out. Here is a short-cut to just the St. Lawrence County Listings:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=csr&CScnty...

Since I have already "created" so many memorials copying over my inventories, please just contact me either through my Find-a-grave member page or via email if you want me to transfer any listings to you. Only the owner can add biographical data (anyone can add pictures), so unless you are the owner, you can't add that yourself. Another option is to send me any info you would like added to any memorials that are in your family tree.

I hope this makes sense,
Enjoy,
Anne Cady

The B. could be Barton from the Edsall family or Bartholomew which was her mother's maiden name.

His grandfather was Edgar J. Duprey (dob 4/17/09, dod 4/30/92), buried in cemetery on corner of Black Lk. Rd. and Rt. 37 in Ogdensburg (sorry don't know the name of it). Edgar's father was Eugene Dupuis/Dupris/Duprey (I've seen all 3 spellings!); mother was Ida DeCaire (sp?). Any information you could look up on either of these folks would be much appreciated. Dates of birth, death, marriage, location of burials? Thank you, thank you!

David White and Eliza Typher White of DeKalb, St. Lawrence, New York were my great-great grandparents. They immigrated to St. Lawrence County prior to 1870 from Prescott, Ontario and originally settled in the town of Oswegatchie before moving to DeKalb. They had a total of nine children, Edward White, Anna White Alkerton, Elizabeth White Woods, George White (my great grandfather), William White, John White, Hamilton White, Robert White, and Mary White Porter. All lived in DeKalb or nearby St. Lawrence County most of their lives. I would very much like to contact any one interested in this family.
BILLINGSLEY in St. Lawrence County

I am searching for information on Alpheus BILLINGSLEY and his family who are listed in the 1870 Federeal Census for St. Lawrence County, Town of Canton, PO, Morley.

He has a daughter, Elizabeth, aged 9, that may be my great grandmother. Lizzy BILLINGSLEY married Willie MANTLE on May 28 1881 in Russell, St. Lawrence County, New York. Willie died in 1883 and is buried in Harrisville, NY in the NELSON MANTLE family plot. They had one child named Wilda MANTLE, who married Frank CALDWELL from Harrisville. I believe that Lizzie married William Stevens and had 3 more children, Eva, Alford, and Lee Stevens. Wilda was raised by her grandmother Mantle.

The BILLINGSLEY family is comprised of Alpheus, born about 1834 in Canada, his wife Abigail, born about 1834 in Canada, Roder A. (a female) born about 1857 in Canada, Elizabeth, born about 1861 in Canada, Louisa, born about 1864 in Canada, and Ellen, born about 1867 in New York. I have not found them in the 1860 NOR 1880 census records for St. Lawrence or neighboring counties.

Any information about them would be appreciated.

Connie Gilbert

St. Lawrence Tax Rolls, Looking for BARLOW's listed

I have been trying to trace Hiram Wheeler BARLOW (28Sep1820-27Aug1876) without any luck or documentation. So I wondered if it might be possible to get a list of BARLOW's on the tax rolls in St. Lawrence County for any of the years between 1820 to 1837.

According to census records Hiram was born in New York. I've been able to trace him back to St. Lawrence County. I've contact the Historical Society there with no luck. Hiram is on the muster rolls for those prisoner whom participated in the Battle of the Windmill. According to court records 1838 of those participants Hiram stated his parents where deceased. His last place of residence was Morristown or Rossie Village. Again, the area historian could find no record.

So, I thought I might try Tax Rolls, and than see if any school records might be available for the area and time period.

I do know that Hiram married Mary CUMMINS from Canada, daughter of James CUMMINS and Charity RUDE.

I am looking gor any information on my great-grandfather, George Lucian Robertson's family who lived in St Lawrence County c. before and after 1825. He married Olive Rudes in Philadelphia, Jefferson Co., New York in 1847. They "adopted" a boy, Melvin Parmentier, and moved to Michigan in 1851. George served in the Sixth Michgan Cavalry during the Civil War. We have never been able to trace George's family other than his death record which lists his parents as Daniel and Elizabeth Robertson. However, George is listed in the 1850 census in Philadelphia as George Robinson. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a list of early settlers is Kent County Michigan who came from St Lawrence and Jefferson Counties, New York.

I'm searching for information on Sylvester Bacon was born in Rossie , NY on June 6, 1838 was in the civil war {enlisted in Lewis county}aug. 22,1862 . He was in the 5th NY heavy artillery . Was discharged 6/26/1865 . He married Lucinda Lyman . I believe their first born son was also born in Rossie in 1866 . I found them in 1870 in Lowville (Lewis County) until they moved to (warren county ) in 1900 . Then in 1908 to 1910 Sylvester went to the soldiers and sailors home in bath , ny . That is the last place I could find him in the census records . I have searched every place {counties} that I know of and can not seem to find who his parents were . Wondering if anyone has access to civil war records that may possibly have his parents names . audnj94@yahoo.com
Thank you ,
audrey

She married Jonathan Higgins on 18 Sep 1813, in St. Lawrence County, New York. They had 5 Children.

A female Higgins died in the mill pond on the family property in late June or early July 1828, reported in a NY newspaper of the era.
Other children were:
Louisa Higgins born 16 Mar 1820 in NY
Sophronia Higgins born 1822 NY
Charles Jonathan Higgins bor 8 Nov 1823 in NY
Harriet Higgins born 1824 in NY

Jonathan Higgins died 3 Oct 1831 and is buried in Hillcrest cemetery in Oswegatchie, St. Lawrence, NY. His wife and adult children moved to Manitowoc and Brown Counties in Wisconsin about 1860. Nancy Higgins died on 23 Sept 1873 in Fort Howard, Brown County, Wisconsin. I have the actual obituary from a Brown County newspaper clipping, which was in a pre-Civil War photo album owned by Nancy Woodworth Higgins. She converted to Methodist Episcopal faith at age 20, which is about the time she married Jonathan Higgins.

I am very interested in finding parents of Nancy Woodworth. Anyone with information on Woodworth families of Essex, Vermont, who may have moved to St. Lawrence County New York, please contact me. I want to share the copies of these photos with living family members.

Early marriages from Saint Lawrence county

Hi,
I'm hoping somebody might be able to help me. I'm looking for a marriage records for my great grandparents Timothy O'Connell and Ann Martin. I believe they married sometime between 1864-1867 but I can't find marriage records anywhere. I've written St.Patrick's.Church The town clerks in both Macomb and Rossie. Timothy own a farm in the area at the time of his marriage but they didn't have any information. I've also been through ancestry.com, usgenweb, Ann Cady's lists (great info) , the newspapers online and any possible lead I could from this message board. I know the lds library has a film that has an early marriages from Saint Lawrence county on its but I can get to my local family history center during hours they're open. I live in Southern California about 3000 miles away so, that makes going to the town clerks impossible. Does anybody have a copy of the lds film or know where I can write or call. I'd be grateful for any suggestions

Thank-you Pamela

Samuel Edward Qua born in Hebron NY in 1819 was my great grandfather. He married Margaret Hobson who was born at sea on a ship from Ireland. She was adopted by Ruben Blood. I am lucky enough to have a picture of the family which includes Samuel and Margaret and their children: Ruben, Henry J. George F. Ella, and my grandfather Samuel Qua II. I would be happy to share. My father was Elmer L Qua and his second wife was my mother. He was much older than she. I was born in 1936. If anyone is interested in corresponding, I would be glad to hear from you.

Lynn

Marriage/Robert McDonald,Ludencia Rowles/Jan 16, 1883

I would like the details of this marriage in Morristown. I believe that Robert is the son of my gg aunt Margaret McDonald nee Johnston. On the 1850 Census, the family was in Oswegatchie and in 1870, they were in Morristown. Margaret's husband was James. Want to confirm for sure that this is Margaret's son as it is an important link. It appears that most of the children must have died in the 1870s but Robert survived and moved to Irvington on the Hudson where we found him in 1900. Unfortunately, Margaret died in 1895 at her son Robert's residence.
Thanks for further details on this marriage in 1883.
Peggy G.

James and Margaret McDonald, nee Johnston, Morristown, New York

I am reposting this query in the great expectations that it will reach someone out there who can help me.

My ancestor, Margaret Johnston, was born about 1825 in Ireland to James Johnston and Margaret Jane Groves. She married James McDonald in Gloucester Township, Carleton County, Ontario on Dec 17, 1845. They had children James in 1846 and Sarah in 1849. Then they disappeared. In 1874, Margaret, widow, did a land transaction in Gloucester and her residence was Morristown, New York.
Since then, I have found this family which I strongly feel is the correct family in 1850.

1850 St. Lawrence Co. census. Living in Oswegatchie, St. Lawrence Co., NY were the following.
James McDonald 27 years Laborer born Canada
Margaret McDonald 25 yrs Canada
James McDonald 3 yrs Canada
Margaret McDonald 2yrs Canada
Sarah McDonald 1 yr Canada
George McDonald 3/12 NY

then in 1870, this MAY be the same family in Morristown
James McDonald 46 yrs. (abt 1824)Born Canada Laborer
Margaret McDonald 43 yrs. (abt 1827)Born (shows Canada)
House wife
Angus McDonald 13 yrs. Born NY
Robert McDonald 11 yrs. Born NY
Sarah Jane McDonald 9 yrs. Born NY
Catherine McDonald 7 yrs. Born NY
Allen McDonald 4 yrs. Born NY

So James must have died between 1870 and 1874, probably Morristown.
Now, I have found this, which may or may not be the son James and mother Margaret in Brier Hill Cemetery, Morristown.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~stlawgen/CEMETERY/B...
McDonald Monument
James McDonald, d. Jan 24, 1872; AE 26 yrs, 1 mo, 13 dys
Maria C., wife of James McDonald, d. Aug 18, 1886 AE 46 yrs, 1 mo
Clara Eveline, dau, d. Aug 13, 1871 Aged 10 mos

Margaret, wife of James McDonald, Mother, 1823-1895

If anyone can elaborate on any of this, such as find the death of James between 1870 and 1874, or Margaret in 1895, or the marriage of son James and Maria, or the births of any of Margaret's children, I would be so grateful.
Thank you
Peggy
Is there a library service that will look this up and mail to me or is there a local researcher. I am willing to pay any fees.
Joanna

1840 Massena St. Lawrence Co., NY I find Francis Corbeno family, Joseph Corveno family, Charles Cobeno family, Antoine Carbeno family and a Richard Carenough family. Most of the males head are 30/30 age.

1850 no information on Carbino/Patterson in 1850 that meets our Lewis Carbino or Amelia/Parmilia Patterson

1860 no information on Carbino or Patterson that meets Lewis Carbino or Patterson family.

Lewis Carbino joined the 60th NY Inf. Co. G 9/11/1861 he gave his residence as Madrid,NY,and said he was born 10/8/1837 at Massena, St. Lawrence, NY he mustered out 2/4/1863 he then joined the 7th NY Heavy Artillery Co. AS 2/27/1864 and was mustered out 8/1/1865. He was noted as Lewis and Louis in military records. Lewis requested pension from his service in 1898 from NY.

Lewis Carbino married Rosina Constine but does not give a date, and Frank (Francis)was born 12/31/1860/NY, and Mary Jane 2/8/1861/NY, Bertha 5/4/1866 were born. Rosina Carbino died 5/4/1871 in Gouverneur, ST. Lawrence Co. NY.

1870 Hopkinton, St. Lawrence Co. NY Lewis CANMAN (note wrong spelling 1839/NY,
Rosana 1843/Canada, Francis 1860/NY, Mary Jane 1862/NY, Bertha 1869/NY noted as day laborer.

Rosina Carbino nee Constine died 5/4/1871 in pension records Lewis says Gouverneur, St, Lawrence Co. NY

Lewis Carbino married (according to pension records Marsha Propper, he gave the dte a 1/1/1872 in Potsdam, NY by Rev. J.C. Stewart, she had been married to a Mr. Patterson prior whom had died. Yet I have her in all census as either Permilia or Amelia b/1830 NY.

1873-74 Hopkinton business directory Lewis Carbino (Parishville) FARMER 20

1880 Potsdam, St Lawrence Co. NY Lewis Carbino 1834/NY farm laborer, Amelia 1830/NY, Bertha 1869/NY, living with them also is George Patterson 1855/NY noted as stepson and Milton J. Patterson 1859/NY nephew. This substanciates the Patterson prior marriage. Also note worthy is that Lewis Carbino lives next door the William Laroe family who is also one of our Snohomish Co. Civil War Vets.

1900 Potsdam, St. Lawrence Co. NY Louis Carbonneau (note spelling) 10/1834/NY noted as carpenter, Parmilia 1832/NY

1910 Lowell, Snohomish Co.WA Lewis Cassarbino (note spelling) 71/NY laborer says married twice and had 4 children 3 living, Permilia 80/NY says married twice had 8 children 6 living, James Patterson 1856/NY divorced. It does note Lewis is a Union Soldier. The only reason I can see for Lewis & Permilia to remove to WA is maybe James Patterson was here and Permilia wanted to be by her son?

Pernila Carbino died 12/16/1911 in Snohomish Co. WA

1920 Lowell, Snohomish Co,WA Louis Carlino (note spelling)83/NY widow and boarding with
George & Clara Waddell.

Lewis Carbino (spelled Carvino) died 1/7/1923 at hs home in Lowell, Snohomish Co. WA and noted his belated wife to be Permilia Carvino. Someone also put his date of birth as 10/18/1836 in NY.

Everett Daily Herald
1/8/1923
Lewis Carvino, 86 years old, died late Sunday night at 5510 Second street, Lowell. He leaves two daughters and one son in New York. Mr. Carvino was a member of the G.A.R., which organization will take charge of the services at the cemetery. Services will be held from Maulsby & Sons Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, the Rev. R.D. Nicholis officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. (children would be Frank/Francis, Mary Jane & Bertha Carbino)
Charles and Mary Johnson

It is the Emma JOHNSON family that I am currently working on.
Her parents were Harrison JOHNSON and Margaret Elizabeth KECK.
Harrison Johnson was born 29 Apr 1843 in NY and M. 'Elizabeth' Keck was born 23 Sep 1842 in Matilda, Dundas, Canada the daughter of Lucas and Ellen (GUESS) Keck from Matilda, Dundas, Ont., Canada.
Both Harrison and 'Elizabeth' died in Union, Iowa near Marble Rock.
I have the text of Harrison Johnson's Obituary from the curator of the Historical society in Marble Rock. Through this I believe I have found the family of Harrison Johnson:

Parents:
Charles M. Johnson b. 1816 VT and Mary Unknown b. 1826 Canada. They are living in Lisbon, St. Lawrence Co., NY according to the 1850 census. Through this census their children are:
Harrison M. Johnson b. 1843 NY m. M. Elizabeth Keck
Royal C. Johnson b abt 1846 NY m. Unknown
Mary M. Johnson b. abt 1849 NY m. Unknown

I later found daughter, A(E)lmina J. Johnson b. abt 1851 NY through her brother Royal, living in Iowa, 1880. he was listed as brother in law to Uriah(s) COLLISON, thus brother to Almina J. Johnson.

This 1880 Iowa census puts Harrison, Royal and Almina all in or near Marble Rock Iowa at the same time. What a journey this has been!

Harrison Johnson's obituary says that he was an orphan by the age of 12. This would then indicate that both parents, Charles Johnson and Mary having died or missing shortly after the birth of Almina. I am trying to find out where the children went after the death/missing of their parents. I am assuming they went to live with relatives.
Harrison Johnson, I know from his obit, was driving a stage coach and on his own by the age of 14. Royal, Almina and Mary Johnson are probably living with relatives and could be listed with the wrong parents after 1850. Since the Obituary says Harrison was an orphan by 12 this would put both parents having died/missing by 1855?

Did these children remove to Canada, or stay in St. Lawrence, NY with relatives? eventually to Iowa and MN. Where did sister/daughter Mary go? What happened to the Charles and Mary Johnson to die so young? Who were Charles Johnson's parents, presumably from VT. and what was his wife's last name? So many questions, sorry about that-a true mystery though.

I should note that my great grandfather, Harrison Ackley was, presumably, named after his grandfather, Harrison Johnson. Harrison Johnson and M. Elizabeth Keck had the following children:
Emma Johnson b. Apr 1965 Canada m. Garrison Ackley
(they had my Harrison Ackley)
Martin 'Levi' Johnson b. abt 1868 IA m. Mary COLLISON (which Collison branch??)
Royal 'Lucas' Johnson b. abt 1869 IA m. Jessie Unknown,(she died young, and is buried with Royal's parents in Westside Cemetery, Marble Rock, IA)
Charles E. Johnson b. 1881 d. 1882 IA

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cathy
This is what I know Alexander R. Vanmeer (Vanmyer) married Jane J. Bell in Ogdensburg NY. on April l9, 1856. I would love more info. on them. I know JaneJ. Bell was from
Doormore Ireland. And that they had a child(Alex Jr.) in Canada. I have no idea where in Canada. I'm in need of info. on his mother and father.
His parents were:
John Vanmeer jr.b july 4 ,1799 and he died Oct 31 1862.
His wife HANNAH WILLIAMS born Dec 22, 1805 died May 20, 1885.

I think Hannah remarried a J. Johnson.
This could have occurred after John died
or before John died (I'm unclear).
Hannah and J. Johnson had a child
Elmina J. Johnson b. Mar 14, 1851 or l861?

Since, Alexander was in Ogdensburg NY I thought this might lead me somewhere.

I do know they all ended up in Marble Rock IA. by 1870ish.

I'm very interested in any ideas, suggestions you may have.

Thank you very much!

Dawn Hass
Milwaukee WI
