Seeking information on family of James Skiff HAYS, b. 1831 in Watkins Glenn, Schuyler Co., NY, to Jane Skiff and Charles HAYS. Charles migrated with his brother James and father Ephraim HAYS to NY from Somerset Co., NJ before his marriage to Jane Skiff, daughter of James Skiff, in abt 1822. Charles and Jane had at least three children: Mary HAYS, who married Anderson WEBBER; Phebe Ann HAYS, who married John OSTERHOUT; and James Skiff HAYS.
Charles' son James married Harriet Jane KELLY, daughter of unknown parents, abt 1851-1852. Jane may have had a brother named Mott KELLY. Not long after they married, James and Harriet migrated to Greenville, Mercer Co., PA, where they had 8 children: Mary Ellen, who married Harvey EASTLICK; Estella Mariana, who married William T. SMALL; Harriet Jane, who married 1st William David GRANT and 2nd Jacob D. BEEMAN; Charles Legrande who died young; my g grandfather GRANT Lowell HAYES, who married Annette DEXTER; James Mott, who married Fannie B. LIGHTFOOT; Thane Lamont, who died young; and Morris HAYS.
Charles' brother James married Tempy LNU abt. 1810. They had at least one child, a son Caleb HAYS, who was born in Orange, Schuyler Co., NY, July 8, 1817. Abt 1839, Caleb married Phebe Ann JANES, daughter of Richard and Sarah JANES. At least two children were born to Caleb and Phebe: Tempy Ann in 1840, who married Benjamin F. HANMER; and in 1842, Brasier or Brazure HAYS, who married S A LNU, Jennie LNU, and Roxy LNU. In the 1875 Reading, Schuyler Co., Census, Brasier and Roxy are listed with 4 children: Ulysses, Caleb W., Mary C., and Schuyler.
An LDS ancestral file has additional information about the children Ira and Lee HANMER, of Tempy Ann and Benjamin HANMER, and their grandaughter Tempa Ann, who married Harry DILL.
