Hello, I was reading past posts and found this one that said you are granddaughter of Eldred. Charles Covert did leave Clara but he stopped in MI before California and married Emily Moran and they had one child Walter. Charles & Emily divorced and then he went to California where he married Florence. My husband is Bruce Covert, son of Walter. Eldred & Walter would be half brothers.

Hello, and thank you for your message.

There are several men with the name of Levi Ellis, even within close relation to Wesley. Wesley's father, Lazarus Ellis, was the son of Levi Ellis. Lazarus had a brother, Levi Ellis who married Martha Finch, I believe.

Lazarus Ellis had son named Levi Ellis, though I believe it was Levi S. Ellis, who married Miriam Hedge.

Lazarus Ellis had a brother, William Ellis (wf Jemima Marie or Maria Fenton), who had sons Levi W. Ellis and Lazarus Ellis.

Milling was a tradition within portions of the Ellis family, and they seemed to live in high numbers in the same area.

I do not know if Wesley had a middle name. I've never seen it on any document, but it is an interesting suggestion.

I may take you up on your offer via e-mail, sometime soon.

Thank you, again!

C.S.

This isn't exactly genealogical information, but may provide clues... I have copies of deeds for Tyrone NY Grist Mill, from Lazarus W. Ellis to Leonard Lockwood and Levi W Ellis (of Starkey, Yates County)- dated 1838, and from both Lockwood and Levi W Ellis to Eli Sunderlin - dated 1839. These are prints from microfilms of Steuben County deeds, transcribed to Schuyler County, with reference to Steuben liber & page numbers. Also notes Lazarus Ellis' wife as Esther Ellis.
It would appear that Lazarus Ellis was in some financial difficulty, and his son was helping him to get money to pay back loans/mortgages, etc. The deeds from Lockwood & Ellis to Sunderlin show dollar amounts of $5,666.66 and $5,333.33, (total $10,999.99) with a disclaimer that "This conveyance is not to effect or _[imperil? hard to read]_ the claim of the parties of the first part upon the policy of insurance upon the mills lately destroyed by fire upon the said premises Expected to them by the Hartford Fire Insurance Company." There may also be newspaper articles about that...

Would Levi W. Ellis of Starkey, Yates County, possibly be Wesley Ellis?

The deed copies are not digitized, I have photocopies from the microfilm, could copy & mail to you, if you're interested. There may also be other Ellis deeds in Schuyler and Yates Counties... My e-mail is mlaarons "at" yahoo.com, if that is better than message board.

Dickens" on my wife's side of the family.
Eli S. b: 3 April 1801 or maybe in 1805), d: 19 Nov 1882, m: 1823 to Roxanna Culver. Eli was the son of Robert (I do not have his mother's name). I show 11 children. I show he lived in both Tompkins and Schuyler Counties. My wife descends via Chauncey Dickens b: 1845/6, d: 23 Dec 1937, m: 7 Dec 1874 to Mary Elizabeth Strang (Le'Strang). Helen Cole is buried in Waverly New York with a few of her children. Ward is buried in Lakewood Cemetery, Hennipen Co. Minnesota. He apparently left Helen and, perhaps, went to live with his son, William in Wayzata. Who knows - Good hunting. Carol W. Dudley P.s Ward's first wife was Sally Wells - daughter of Henry Wells - (check "Wells of Southold") That book is rife with mistakes but a good start - Sally is buried in the Ithica City Cemetery along with a few of her grandchildren.

Here is the information that I have about the Bowers family.

Carl Bowers born in May 1888 in New York, USA (most likely Hector, Schuyler, New York) son of Albert L. Bowers and Della. Married Mabel T. Parke (1886-1973) and had two boys Robert Carl Bowers (1912-1993) and Gerald Park Bowers (1918-1995). Census records show Hector, New York for 1900, 1910, 1920 and then Geneva, New York 1930.

Albert L. Bowers born Oct. 31, 1840 son of Ebenezer Bowers and Susan in Ohio. Married Della about 1870 and children Helen (1871-), May (1872-), Charles (1874-), Seely (1879-), Albert (1882-), Lucy (1884-), Carl (1888-), Rodney (1890-) and Ray Elliot (1893-). Census records show he was in Hector, New York for 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900 and 1910.

Ebenezer Bowers born about 1793 in New York and dies before 1860. He Married Susan (1880-) and children Mary A. (1829-), Isaac N. (1831-), Milton (1834-), William (1836-), Lotty Jane (1839-), Albert L. (1840-), and Sarah (1843-). Census records for 1850 show him in Hector, New York

I’m looking for parents of Della (wife of Albert L. Bowers), Susan (wife of Ebenezer Bowers) and then parents of Ebenezer Bowers. Also hints on the children of Albert or Ebenezer would also be helpful.
I am also researching the Charles Quear and
Frances O Thompson line. I know that Charles Quear was the son of Austin and Amanda Quear. Austin was born in Penn. about 1818 and Amanda was born in Penn. about 1820. Austin and Amanda had three children that I know of--they were Ellen, born about 1837 in Bergen, Genesee, New York; Elias born about 1843 in Bergen, Genesee, New York, and Charles (spouse of Frances O Thompson) born June 1846 in Bergen, Genesee, New York. The family later relocated to Matteson, Branch, Michigan.

Of Austin and Ellen who are the children of Charles and Frances O Quear that you wrote of, I know only that they both lived until 1900 at least. Austin was a patient at the Insane Asylum in Kalamazoo Mich. in that year and was unmarried, and where Ellen was I do not know, only that her mother stated that she was living in 1900. A bit of time has passed since you wrote your request for information and I was wondering if you had found out any more info on the Quear family since then? I am specifically trying to find out if Austin and Amanda Quear who are the parents of Charles, had an older son named William John born in 1836?

-Amy McKeon

I am hopeful that this is the Liberty Corners that I am looking for. The family Collins was living there about 1820. So, they may not show on a later census or have anyone in that graveyard. What would be very helpful to me is for you to tell me the why you think that particular corner was once Liberty Corners. I also would like to know the name of that cemetery on 143 (Bates Rd) and is it on private property now? Was the church foundation nearby?
The reason I continue to pursue this is because it is not far from the family of a brothers wife who met and married about the same time. Since the Liberty Corners name came from an obit, it is not impossible that the person who wrote it mistakenly thought it was in Tompkins Co. I appreciate your patience with me. I have found a source for old maps, but I wonder if you have already a map which marks the name of this community. LouAnne

We are now in NY. Have been to the site and found the cemetery (not well Marked) Its on Rt 143 .2 mile east of the intersection of 143 and Burdick. There is another well marked cemetery on Townsend Rd just north of the intersection of Clark Rd. We copied 16 names from the 70 or so stones. The dates are 1846- 1870. Are you interested in the names? At that site there are 2 houses and several farm buildings. No church, no post office. Did you think there would be? Are you doing this search because you live in the area? Do you know if this spot was in Tompkins Co. before 1854 when Schuyler was formed? LouAnne

Amy's husbands fathers name was Alexander Claucherty arrived from Scotland around 1816 with wife, 2 daughters, 3 sons: Alexander, John and Samuel. About 1819 they settled in Catharine Town now Schuyler co. but then Tioga Co. Where ever they lived when Amy was married, was temporary as they searched for land. The spelling of the last name was changed years later.
I don't have her parents names. But in the Ithaca Tompkins Co.Library there is a book of " early settlers in Tom.Co" that shows a great number of Collins. NYGenweb has 1825 census for Hector, Tompkins there is a John Collins might be a lead.

The "lost" community of Liberty Corners was (is) located at the Intersection of Burdick Road and County Road 143 (formerly Bates Rd)in the Town of Covert, Seneca County - this intersectional area is (1) mile North of the Town Line of Hector, Schuyler County (Seneca Rd) and appx equidistant of 4-5 miles from Interlaken, NY and Trumansburg, NY--Trumansburg is in Tompkins County -do you have any further leads for me to help you trace Amy and her husband? I do have the capability thru US Censuses & local property owners maps for the time frame you are researching to find folks who lived in this Area - by chance do you know the Church they belonged to or were married in? There is/was a ME Church(stone foundation) but now only a fairly well marked cemetery remains with many local families buried there. I will check the Censuses & property(s) mapped in for this area -is Alexander's last name Clauharty the family that probably was here first? Amy's name was Collins, do you know her folks names? Resp, GJ Messmer

Loking for information on Minerva Steele. She was my Grandfather, Arthur Tyler's mother. I can not find information on my great grandfather, John Tyler but know that Minerva remarried John Hellmandollar and had two daughters, Vivian and Edna. My mother was named after Vivian and I after her. I know that Edna died in 2005 and Vivian died at age 18. I would like to know how vivian passed away. I would also like more information on that side of my family. I have many pictures of Edna, her sons Butch(Fred) and Sonny (Art)and what I beleive to be Edna's grandson Buster. I also have pictures of what I believe is Vivian but those are not noted. I also have a picture of who I believe to be Minerva and her second husband John Hellamdollar. There are many pictures of cousins as well. Would love to compare notes and share pictures and informantion.
