Funeral Tuesday for Victim of Howard Crash Injuring 7
Bath - Funeral services for George A. Drake, 20, of Bath RD 4, fatally injured in the two-car crash Saturday hear Howard which injured seven other persons, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Fagan Funeral Home here.
His brother-in-law, Steven G. Wray, 21 of 72 W. Morris St, Bath, remained this morning in critical condition in the intensive care unit at the Bethesda Community Hospital in North Hornell from injuries sustained in the accident.
He was the driver of a car involved in the crash with another auto operated by Harold J. Yarrison, 34, of 4 South Ave, Bath.
Other injured in the crash and taken to St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell were Mr. Yarrison, treated for facial cuts and released; William Yarrison, 31, same address, treated for forehead lacerations and released; Joyce Yarrison, 25, same address, treated for body bruises and released; and John E. Zampaloni, 50, of Buffalo, treated for body bruises and released.
Reported in satisfactory condition this morning at St. James were Judith J. Yarrison, 27, also of 4 South Ave, Bath fractured left leg, and Regina Hapka, 46, of Buffalo, fractured ribs and leg cuts. All those taken to St. James were occupant in the Yarrison vehicle, according to Trooper Paul J. Johnson of the Bath State Police.
Mr. Earl Pack, pastor of the local Jehovah Witnesses, Kingdom Hall, will officiate at the Funeral services for Mr. Drake. Burial will be in Nondaga Cemetery here. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Born March 1, 1951 in Bath, the son of George & Gladys Rose Drake. Mr. Drake was an employe of Bully Hill Farms near Hammondsport.
He is Survivied by his parents; three sisters, Mrs. Stella Wray of Bath, Miss Dora Drake and Miss Connie Sue Drake, both at home; James Drake, Robert Drake and John Drake, all at home; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lynn Drake of Bath.
Mr. Drake became Steuben County's eighth traffic fatality of the year in the crash which occurred at 11:45 a. m. Saturday on County Rt. 70-A, a tenth of a mile east of County Rt. 55, in the Town of Howard. He died at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Bethesda Hospital, Hornell.
Trooper Johnson reported Mr. Yarrison said he was driving westbound on Rt. 70-A and as he rounded a curve he observed the eastbound Wray car skidding sideways.
He said he stopped his car and the right side of the Wray auto crashed into the front of the Yarrison auto in the westbound land.
Police said Wray sustained undetermined internal injuries. Ther steering wheel had to be removed to free him from the wreckage and Mr. Drake was removed from a rear window, police added.
Ambulances from Arkport and Hornell and a state police car were used to take the injured to the hospitals.
Other officers at the senec were Zone Sgt. N. L. Lighty, BCI Investigator Paul Rectenwald and Tropper W. T. Murphy.
Dr. Arvo Salo of Corning, a Steuben County coroner, also ws called. Issurance of a death certificate is peding.
State Police today said investigation of the accident is continuing.
