My wife is the great-grandniece of Carrie Armena Pattison. Her second husband was Jacob Hoffman. His death record in the McKean County Courthouse reads: "Hoffman, Jacob H, 34 years old, born Cochecton Center, Sullivan County, New York, laborer, died 12 Sep 1899 in Hickox, Potter County, Pennsylvania, of paralysis. Interred in Smethport on 14 Sep 1899."

So I think he must be the son of Jacob Hoffman and Wilhemina (incidentally, the 1900 census indicates they married about 1860). Dates and place of birth match. I don't want to take this line too much farther, but there's a certain degree of mystery about Jacob, who married Carrie in 1884. I have access to two Smethport papers publish back then, and they say essentially nothing about him. And I don't know why he died in Potter County. Jacob and Carrie had one child who lived past infancy, Eva. Eva never married and died in Smethport in 1959. Jacob, Carrie, and Eva are buried in Rosehill Cemetery in Smethport.
