The following is from The Cobb Family of New England by Isaac Cobb: page 202

Lyman Cobb (7) Elijah William (6) Elijah (5) Judah (4) James (3) James (2) Henry (1) third son of Elijah William (6) and Sally (Whitney) Cobb, m. Hannah Chambers, in Carolina, N.Y., Apr. 7, 1822. It is stated that at nine years of age, Lyman started out in life to seek his fortune. The history of Westchester County, N.Y., speaks of him as "one of the greatest educators and most indefatigable authors of his time. He began teaching at sixteen, and published his famous Cobb's spelling-book at nineteen years of age, which went into all the schools in the country.

His subsequently-published books are very numerous including five reading-books, a speaker, a Dictionary, an Expositor, a
Minature Lexicon, and many other volumes. At his death he left unfinished a Concordance, a National Dictionary, and a Pronouncing Testament. He was as active in human enterprises as he was in educational and literary work. He was a member of each of many benevolent societies of prominence, and a leader in them all. He was noted for intelligent zeal, for promptness in action, for kindness of heart, and simplicity of conduct." In religion he was an Episcopalian. The last five years of his life was passed in Yonkers, N.Y., with his son Lyman Cobb, Jr. He d. in Colesbury, Pa., Oct. 26, 1864, of typhoid fever, he having gone to that place to make a visit, expecting to be absent a fortnight.

Children of Lyman and Hannah (Chambers) Cobb:

Sara Jane, (8) b. in Rochester, N.Y., Mar. 20, 1823; m. Rev. William C. Duncan, D. D., in New York City, July 1, 1846. She d. July 7, 1847, without issue. Dr. Duncan d. many years ago.

Eleanor Mack, (8) b. in Berkshire, N.Y., Apr. 3, 1825; m. Rev. Joseph W. Pierson, Apr. 18, 1849, in New York; d. Oct. 11, 1851, leaving two children. Her husband is also dead.

Children: Eleanor Francis (Pierson) m. a Mr. Snow.

Jane Louisa (Person) m. a Mr. Wheeler, and settled in the far West.

Lyman, (8) b. in Caroline, N.Y., Sept. 18, 1826,; m. Cornelia Sharville Drake, of Little Falls, N.Y., Nov. 4, 1845, who was b. in Watertown, N.Y., May 14, 1824, the daughter of Moses and Electa (Hinman) Drake.

Hannah Louise, (8) b. in Caroline, Aug. 13, 1828; m. Prof. David H. Cruttenden, July 24, 1850. Both died leaving,- Harry (Cruttenden) who went West, residence unknown.

George Whitney, (8) b. in New York, June 12, 1837. He is dead.

Charles Frederick, (8) b. in New York, Nov. 3, 1848; m. Miss Jennie A. VanWagner June 22, 1870, who was b. in Macopin, N.J., May 12, 1850.

Eugene Wheaton, (8) b. in New York, Oct. 16, 1851. He is dead
