According to the Revolutionary War pension record for Jonathan Odell (also spelled Odel) and later his widow, Catherine (Terwilliger) Odell, Jonathan was born 23 June 1760 in or near Peekskill, NY and died 17 April 1835, Ulysses, NY. He had also resided in Lansing, NY and Groton, NY.

Jonathan and Catherine were married married on 17 Oct 1784 in Shawangunk, Ulster, NY (Dutch Reformed Church).

Catherine Terwilliger was born 25 Mar 1769 in Ulster County, NY and died 6 December 1841, Dryden, Tompkins, NY "while on a visit". She had been living with her son Jonathan in Scott, Cortland, NY.

Among the six surviving children of Jonathan and Catherine was "Rebecca Kellogg, wife of Stephen Kellogg of Groton".

I've found a Baptism record for a Jonathan Odel in the "Old Church of Sleepy Hollow," organized in 1697, and now the First Reformed Church of Tarrytown, September 13, 1760.
It listed Jonathan Odel's birthdate as June 23 and his parents as "Abraham Odel and Rabecka Dykman, his wife," with witnesses "Jonathan Odel and Maragritie Dykman, his wife."

Jonathan and Catherine Odell's son Nathan/Nathaniel appears to be the father of my gg-grandfather George Odell

The Alice Mack reference here interests me. Alice Mack was my great grandmother, was indeed married to Clinton Liggett, and their children (all now deceased) were Howard Liggett, Cora Lewis, and Alma Leska. (There was a fourth, another daughter, I don't recall her name just now). All of these three are buried in Redlands, CA. Plentiful information about each of them is to be found in my mother's unpublished memoirs, Eilleen Lewis Bowen, daughter of Cora. She is still alive, aged 92. It also contains genealogical material about Alice Mack's lineage. I only hope this 8 year old thread still has the live poster who has a picture of this family, as we could compare those you have with mine.

I'd love to gain more information, both from the MacManes and the Newman sides of the family. I do have some old photos with alternate spellings of the MacManes name on the back, not sure why.

Cornelius Davenport of Morris NJ and Tompkins

I suspect that Cornelius of Tompkins and Cornelius of Morris are one and the same (of the Barbadoes Line).
Or that Cornelius of Tompkins was the son of Cornelius of Morris.

The issues are as follows:

1. Online sources list death of Cornelius in 1815 (in Morris) and 1818 (in Tompkins). 1815 headstone picture in Morris is online. Why does anyone believe he died in Tompkins in 1818 (if indeed they are the same guy) ?? Inventory of possessions in Morris was done 1815. A Cornelius was Justice of the Peace in Morris in 1813. Several other cites list businesses in Morris in 1790's. Deeds in Bergen Co (part later Morris) a Cornelius, son of Humphrey, there 1770's and 80's.

2. Online stuff shows additional children/wife. Old books with family history mention only Rachel (maybe his cousin) as a wife. But Elizabeth Cole seems a likely first wife, with her likely children in Tompkins.

3. After Cornelius of Morris died intestate, there are 30 or so deeds concerning a 10 acre piece of property he owned in nearby Sussex Co. releasing interests of apparent heirs. Those heirs include folks in both the Tompkins group and N NJ group.

4. A NY State court case that started in Tompkins concerns property he leased/bought there but mentioning several New Jersey connections. That case mentions his son Moses, who is not mentioned in his published lineage. I'm thinking a child of Elizabeth Cole. Other likely children of Elizabeth are Aaron (m Eleanor King), Catherine (m John I Davenport), and Mary (m David Edmister). Aaron, Catherine, and Mary are certainly children or grandchildren of Morris Cornelius as shown by the Sussex deeds.

5. DAR records list the Tompkins bunch as children of Morris Cornelius.

So, the questions are:
1. Does Morris Cornelius (certainly son of Humphrey) = Tompkins Cornelius ?
2. Is there any proof of a death/burial of a Cornelius in Tompkins in 1818 ?

There is one other possibility: Tompkins Cornelius was the son of Morris Cornelius and he is the one who died in 1818.
That would make the DAR wrong.

I'm looking for information on Lorenzo Congdon. Married in Pine Island, Minnesota about 1850. He had traveled crosscountry from the east. Believed to have one full brother and several half brothers and sisters. One of those half sisters was Rosetta Woodworth from Eagle Bend in Wadena County, Minnesota. From an old letter I found it would appear he died around 1900.

I think we have corresponded before. My oldest VanOrder (VanOrden - listed both ways on the daughters marriage license), is Walter VanOrder a Tailor from New Jersey, b. abt. 1780. He had 2 children that I know of Martha and Nathaniel, both born in New York. I do not know who the mother of his children were. They moved to Indiana by 1840. In Indiana Martha and Nathaniel both married and had their children. Nathaniel is my ancestor. I lose track of him after 1850. His wife remarried in 1863. Any help with progressing beyond Walter or finding out what happened to Nathaniel would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I have the book. I just recently bought myself a copy, because it was on sale only to find out I could have bought it off e-bay for about $65. Scanning pages is no problem. Write to me at my aol e-mail address. Mlkquilts@aol.com and put Yaple Family in subject line.
I have a Mayflower connection too. Maybe two, I found one on my mother's father's side, but she tells me her mother always said she was a descendant of the Mayflower. That one I haven't found as it is suppose to be a materinal line of descent.
The Yaples do not decend from the Mayflower, so I'm guessing it is your connection to Sally "Dykeman" Yaple that you are tracing.

North

Am reposting a message from some time ago in hope that since you have NORTH in your listed lines, you may have some info.

Some members of the North family mentioned below married into the Lunger and Van Order families in the Tompkins/Seneca County area. See note below re male occupations that seemed to link these families.

James North, b. 1783 in NJ m. Lydia Raymond b. 1786 in MA

James and Lydia moved to Seneca County, New York sometime in the early 1800s where they had eight [identified] children. This North line, for the most part, lived in Seneca and/or Tompkins County, New York. Several of the male descendants were carpenters or boat builders by trade and tended to marry into families with the same skills.

I am interested in finding the descendants of George H. North, b. 1877 in Seneca County, New York, m. Margaret Unknown. They moved to Rhode Island and probably died there. Two children. This George H. was known to me as "Uncle George". I have a picture of him that I would be happy to share with a descendant. Handsome fellow.

His son, also George H. b. Jan 1912 in MA, d. Aug 1995 in CA m. Katherine Unknown. His nickname was "Buster". I also have a picture of him that I would be happy to share with a descendant.

Daughter of George, b. 1877 - Anna, b. 1914 in MA, m. Ralph Cataldo and lived in California in the 1960s. Four Cataldo children, Carol, Pat, Ralph and Robert - no dates for them.

I haven't seen anyone on the message boards that seems to be looking at this line. Am hoping to share these pictures with a descendant before my kids thow out all the "Stuff" that they have no connection to. My association with this line is only that "a North" married my father's sister.

It may be that most of this North line moved out of the Tompkins County area and current generations are unaware of any connection to this locale. WHERE ARE THE DIE HARD GENEALOGISTS LOOKING FOR UNCLE GEORGE?

Always happy to share - many folks in the Seneca, Tompkins and Schuyler Counties of New York.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, this is the North family that I am referring to.

Arthur's father was:

George W. North, b. 1839, d. 1893 m. Mary A. Lunger, b. 1853, d. 1887, - buried in Grove Cemetery, Trumanburg, NY

George's father was William North, b. 1812, d. 1887 m. Clarinda Van Dyke, b. 1813, d. 1890 both buried in Grove.

William's father was the James referred to in my previous post.

Pearl and Martin Jones appear in the 1930 Census for Lansing, Tompkins County, New York.

I have nothing further on the Richards family other than Smith, his wife Julia and daughter Hattie. And nothing on this Jones family either.

Still hoping to find the missing descendants of George H. North - my "Uncle George".

Always happy to share.

He died c. 1820 (or early 1821) as his last Rev. War pension payment was dated 7 Dec 1820. He may have died in the town of Cayuta, Tioga Co (now Schuyler Co), NY. I would like to locate the name and location of the cemetery. If anyone has photographed his tombstone, please let me know.
Thanks for any help.

Do you have the book "The Yaple family in America.." By Doris Yaple Geist & Roland William Yaple? Online I saw a google snippet of page 434: "William Butler Weed, son of William Weed and Diantha Done, and his first wife Eva L. Yaple, daughter of Noble Van Rensselaer Yaple and Hannah Newsham"

Do you have that whole quote? William Butler Weed is my GG grandfather, I need the info because I'm tracing my Mayflower roots and they need proof. Diantha Done (Doane)'s ancestors were connected to the Mayflower. I would be very grateful for a scan of the title page and page 434. Thanks!

My Great Grandmother is Florence Mable Davis. Mable and her sister Naomi married two brothers. Warren Tallman and Frederick Tallman. I am related to Davis's and Tallman's. I have a family tree past down to me by my uncle of James and Carrie Tree's family. My Aunt's home burned down and she had all pictures. Let me know if you would like a copy of the family tree.
My grandmother was Sarah Congdon, I beleive born in St. Paul. Mn to a Lorenzo Congdon. She married Clarence Chute and you can look up a fairly complete Chute geneology on the Net. This is possibly the Lorenzo Congdon you are looking for. My grandmother"s family were quakers who moved from out east. Other than that I have little info.
The Chute geoeology has info on Lorenzo's wife etc.
Nancy Hock-Lien

Your message is 11 years old. But I hope you are still out there. There are 2 Abijah Rogers in Oakland county, both are on the 1850 and 1860 census. We are related to Abijah Rogers of Waterford Twp. ( We know it is him by his 1812 war record, states he lived there, and the years.-- later he moved to Rose Twp, and died in Fenton Michigan in 1865. -- Your Abijah lived in Farmington, Oakland County, on both 1850 and 60 census. And Roxy is his wife in 1860. There seems to be 2 land entries, Besides the one you mention for Abijah, he bought the adjacent land there also. I know it says Tomp=kins County,on his record. There is a entry in Livingston County, bought by Abijah Rogers Jr. , and it mentions Jr. several times in that report. and I am inclined to think it is your Abijah. My Abijah was born in Tompkins county, New York. His pension record has alot of information. All his children, No Jane E. Rogers, or wife Roxy. So I know your Abijah On 1860 census they spell Rogers, RODGERS, IT list him and Roxy. So I am thinking your Abijah must be a Jr., and in 1850 it says he was born in Mass. but in 1860 it says new york. -- Hope to hear from you. Maryellen

Thanks for the info - will see what I can do and see if I can find a volunteer. Unfortunately money is the problem with me really being able to do "professional" research these days (being on fixed income)or travel to do research as I used to do in my working days. I also do not do long distance phone calls, [not only because of expense], but the time difference from out here on the West Coast to anyone east of the Mississippi presents difficulties in trying to reach the one person who can actually help: he or she is out to lunch, out of the office for a while or the day or however long, or whatever and leaving a number for a call back only results in my sitting by the telephone the rest of the day for a call that never comes. Been there, tried that too many times in the past. So I will have to get my thinking cap back on and see what I can do with the least amount of expense.... I would really love to finally solve this problem of who my elusive ancestress is; been chasing her for 24 years already.
