ALLEN FAMILY

Classification: Query
Surnames: Allen, Cornell, McAwley, Jackson, White, Hazzard, Pitcher
Searching for information on and burial site of Abel Allen who, according to his son Warren's death certificate in 1915, was born in MA (date & place not known). Abel married Mary (Polly) Cornell (b. 1795 in Saratoga County) and d. 1861 in Glens Falls. Polly is buried in the Glens Falls Cemetery in the Allen plot with her sons Warren R. Allen and William R. Allen.(Polly was the daughter of Elisha Cornell & Rachel Luther & is listed with her family on p. 75 of Rev. John Cornell's 1902 genealogy of the Cornell family).

In 1820 when their son Avery was born, Abel and Polly were living in Providence in Saratoga County . In 1828 when their son Warren was born they were living in Luzerne. Abel is listed in the 1830 & 1840 census records in Luzerne. By 1850, Polly is listed as a widow and is living in Queensbury with her 3 youngest sons. The following is a list of their children as discovered, to date:

Avery P. b. 1820, d. 3 Sept. 1879. Married to (1) Eliza McAwley (dates of birth & death unknown), (2) Mary Hazzard and (3) Mary E. Pitcher. Avery served in the Civil War (CO H, 93rd Regt); he enlisted at age 41. His son by Eliza, Avery Owen Allen, at age 16 enlisted with his father. Avery & his last 2 wives are buried in the Glens Falls Cemetery.

Esther b. circa 1827, d. 3 Dec. 1916 in Three Rivers MI. She was married to (unknown) Jackson.

Warren R. b. 4 June 1828, d. 30 Jan 1915 in Glens Falls. He was married to Phebe Baldwin. He also served in the Civil War (his obituary stated that he was one of 6 brothers to serve in the War. Two children died when he was in service; an adopted son, Frost D. Allen, survived him.

J. Wesley Allen, b. 1834 and d. 1877. He was married to Abigail White. They are buried in the Glens Falls Cemetery.

William R. Allen, b. circa 1838 and d. 15 Oct 1873 at the home of his brother, Warren, at 29 Sherman Ave. in Glens Falls (cause of death was consumption). It appears that William never married. He enlisted in CO E 22nd Regt, NY Vol on 5 May 1861, was shot in the groin 17 Sept 1862, and was honorably discharged on 6 June 1863. On 5 July 1863 he re-enlisted as Private in CO A 2nd NY Vet Vol Cavalry & discharged 6 Nov 1865.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows something about this family. Where Abel came from in MA, his birth and death dates, and where he is buried is my huge "brick wall". I also would like to know where Eliza McAwley is buried & her birth & death dates.
