He m. ca. 1783 Abigail ?Platt, b. ca. 1764 and d. Queensbury 11 May 1811 in 48th yr., bur. in family plot on West Mountain, located in woods off Butler Pond Rd. Local lore of the supernatural concerns the burial place of Abigail, which has in recent years been a gathering place on Hallowe'en. She is said to have been struck by lightning, and various unexplained phenomena in the neighborhood are attributed to her spirit. Her headstone at the family plot was vandalized. When the stone was later rediscovered, a descendant had it placed in Glens Falls Cem. Abigail's husband was listed as "William B." at Queensbury in 1800 (31010/11010) and 1810 (12201/00210), and on the 1805 assessment roll. He is said to have moved here from Dutchess County. William B. served as poundkeeper in 1796 and as pathmaster, 1795-8, 1805, 1808, 1810, 1812, 1815, 1817, 1819-21. On 3 Feb. 1802 he was named an ensign in Capt. Justus Smith's Co., Washington Co. militia (Council of Appointments, p. 582), and had resigned by 1807 (p. 936). William B. West of Queensbury conveyed 11 acres in Lot 87 of Queensbury Patent to Seth, Alpheus and Elias Hawley for $250 in 1816, an abutting owner being George P. West (H/367). In 1817 he conveyed for $1,000 property "near Glens Falls", bounded south by the highway to Sandy Hill, to Halsey Rogers and William Wing. Abutting owners were Jabez Kendricks, William Wing and Widow Wing. The property measured 5 rods on the highway and 13 rods deep. In 1819 William B. mortgaged the 155-acre farm in Lot 44, Luzerne Tract, later owned by son Thomas, to John Ferguson of Luzerne (C/159). In the same year he mortgaged to Nathan Lewis and his heirs 43 acres in the McAuley Patent, Caldwell (C/230). Note that William B. was sometimes referred to as "Barber" West in early Queensbury records. He was incorrectly designated as David Barber West in the family account published under Cutter's auspices, data prob. provided by the family of a great-grandson Henry Emerson West. Children:
