I'm looking for the maiden name of Adaline Densmore, wife of Enoch of Johnsburg. She was born in New Hampshire around 1811. Had several children with Densmore before he died - sometime between 1860-1868. She remarries into my family in 1868, the second wife of Soloman Blake of Fort Edward. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tryiung to find out if Fannie JOUBERT is the same as Fannie JONBERT. My grandmother is listed the 1900 census for Glens Falls as Beatrice CARTER age 11 living with her grandmother Fannie JONBERT aged 69. I find only a few refrences to JONBERT in the Glens Falls, Warren county area. There are many more references to the JOUBERT family and somw to a Fannie JOUBERT. Both names are Canadian. Are they the same, just mis-spelled as so many are? Or are they seperate people?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

Josiah was on the 1840 census, but I think lived there before that. Does anyone recognize the name? (either Josiah, or simply the Beebe name?)

Nathaniel, Joseph, Ezekiel, James Potter

My name is Pamela Winslow and I am descended from James Potter (c. 1816-?) and Delia (Wells) Potter (1821-1882). Delia is buried in the Van Dusen cemetery near Glens Falls, New York. They are listed in the Warren County censuses for 1860, 1870, and 1880.

One of their sons was Fayette Potter (1853-1932) who married Ida (Barrett) Potter (1872-1954) in Iowa. Fayette was raised in Glens Falls, but left permanently for Iowa in the 1880s. Three of his siblings: Alice (Potter) DeMarsh, Eliza (Potter) Witherhill, and Orville Potter were living in Glens Falls when Fayette died.

Fayette and Ida’s only son was Forrest J. Potter (1888-1972) who married Patience Beulah (Barrett) Potter (1891-1982). They lived their entire lives in Iowa. I am their granddaughter

Recently, I noted that an Ezekiel Potter (1779-1862) and his wife Olive (Jennings) Potter (1789-1868) were buried near my great great grandmother Delia (Wells) Potter in the Van Dusen Cemetery in Glens Falls. I also noted that a Nathan Potter, Ezekiel Potter, and Olive Potter were counted in the 1860 census immediately before my great, great grandparents James and Delia Potter. In addition, an Ezekiel Potter was counted in the 1820 census for Ludlow, Massachusetts where he reported having a male child under the age of ten, which was my great, great grandfather’s age at that time. I believe that Ezekiel and Olive Potter could be James Potter’s parents.

Family lore suggests that my Potter ancestors descended from Nathaniel and Dorothy Potter who were early settlers in Rhode Island. The line continues through Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Stokes) Potter, Stokes and Elizabeth (Sherman) Potter, and Nathaniel and Mary (Devol) Potter of Dartmouth, Massachusetts. That is as far as family lore takes me.

Nathaniel and Mary Potter had four sons: Stokes who married Rebecca Shaw; Joseph who married Dinah Gifford; Cornelius who married Deborah Carr; and Stephen who married Bridgett Allen. I have no idea which of these four couples, if any, are my direct ancestors.

I have only found one child, a daughter, for Stokes. Joseph spent most of his adult life in Fort Ann near Glens Falls where all but one of his many sons were born. I have found no record of Cornelius’ children. I believe that Stephen had two sons. None of the offspring I have found was an Ezekiel or a James.

As of yet, I have not been able to establish a definite connection between my great, great grandfather James Potter and Ezekiel Potter or any other Potter ancestors. If you have suggestions, I would be very grateful.

James (Jas.) and Mary Dennison/Denison Ireland to UK 1850+??

Hi,

I'm looking for some help tracing James and Mary Denison (no idea of her maiden name) back to Ireland. We believe that they are in our line and appear on the UK Census in 1881 and they were born around 1849 which narrows it down a little. Unfortunately we have no information on where in Ireland they came from so we are getting stuck trying to go further back. We also believe that members of the family may have gone from Ireland to Canada or the US around the same time.

Any help/ideas would be much appreciated! This cemetery is listed but no one has ever cleaned it up and accurately posted who is there. This road is off West Mt road across from sherman ave. It is on the left side, no very far up...a bit further on the right is a private cemetery. I am not able to do it , maybe some one is interested in a project

looking for information on Alanson D. Pitcher of 1850 Queensbury m. to a Perlina b. abt 1823. They had Alanson Jr b. abt 1844 and Mary E. b abt 1846. They were living next door to the Jenkins that are kin to our Margaret (Jenkins) West, wife of Sam West of Peru NY. Very interested in Perlina as we are searching for Sam's granddau. Perlina West b. 1820-1826 who was underage in 1831 and named in her grandfather's will May 3, 1831. There was a Pitcher family living one household away from Sam West in 1830. Working on a "wild theory" that they may be connected. One of Sam's descendants was out of Peru NY by 1836 and went into MI. The other son's ( who was deceased by 1838) family went to another part of NY.

Edward RICHARDS + Electa PETTIBONE ca 1840 of Johnsburg

Hi,
Can anyone shed more light on this couple? Did they have any children?
From another researcher - Edward is born 2 Apr 1815 d: 8 May 1891 Johnsburg s/o John RICHARDS and Sarah REES.
Edward married Electa Charlotte PETTIBONE marriage bond taken out May 1840 in Haldimand Twp Northumberland Co Ontario Canada. That marriage bond is the only thing I have found so far.
Electa was born Apr 1822 in Haldimand twp ... (I have her baptism) she died 29 Sept 1878 Johnsburg both her and Edward are reported to be buried in Wevertown.
If anyone has the cemetery transcription to confirm these dates or any other info on them I would be very happy to get this. Or does anyone know where I can get confirmation of their deaths and burials?
I see there is an Edward RICHARDS living in Johnsburg on 1875 census. Also has a John RICHARDS so possibly his father John? Census pages I viewed at http://www.co.warren.ny.us/records/archive/docs/1875_jsb_i.p...
I notice a Samuel HARNDON also in Johnsburg - he had a few children move to Haldimand twp area Canada too so maybe a few families headed up and some stayed while others like Edward returned to Johnsburg after marrying in Canada.
I descend from Electa PETTIBONE's sister Margaret H. PETTIBONE. Thank you. - Mary
Finkle-- Bolton & Bolton Landing

I am reserching the Finkle Family of Bolton in the 19th century.

Before 1840, two brothers, George Finkle, Jr. and Thomas Finkle came to Bolton. Among other things, the Finkles were well known for being pilots and captains of steamboats on Lake George. I am searching for their ancestors and descendants. The surname list is of families they or their children married into. I have information on about 45 Finkles in and around Bolton, but some of it is confusing, particularly in the case of multiple marriages: the problem of to which wife which children should be assigned to.

I am particularly interested in which George Finkle of the half-dozen or so George Finkles in Canada, New York and Vermont in 1760-1820 was the father of George Jr. and Thomas Finkle of Bolton. All Finkles of that generation I can find are descended from Johannes Philipp Finkle, who came in the Palatine emigration of 1709.

I will be particularly happy to hear from any cousins.

Edward H.
I'm trying to find information on my 4th great grandparents but don't know where to start in Warren County.

Elijah and Patience Wood Perkins moved to Luzerne between 1800 and 1810. Elijah died in 1829 and Patience sold his property to Jonathan Brown in 1830 and moved to Western NY.

The property, "Kayaderosseras patent in the 23rd allotment, great lot no. 4", was purchased sometime before 1823 when David Stewart surveyed it.

Elijah and Patience had 11 children: Hannah (1802/3), Elijah (1805), Ketchel (1808), Amelia (1805-1810), Wealthea (1805-1810), Rena (1811), Clarissa (1815), Daniel (1817), Dennis (1819), Emmerilla (1823) and Amanda (1825). Ketchel married Almina Rolph/Ralph in Warren County in the late 1820's before they moved with his mother.

Any suggestions for where to look in Warren Co. for deeds, cemetery records, probate records, birth/baptism records, etc. is very greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Kindest Regards,
Mary Dempsey
Independence, MO
My Patrick was born in Ireland (Cork?) in ca. 1830 and came to the US in about 1852. I know that he was married to Ellen Connors at St. Mary's Church in Glens Falls, NY in 1854. Witnesses were John Sweeney and Mary Connors. Nine months later, their first son James was baptized in the same church and his sponsors were Daniel and Ellen (nee Daly) Lane.
Patrick and Ellen moved to Iowa and family legend says he drowned along the way. By 1856, Ellen is living in Osage, Iowa with Daniel and Ellen Lane. She has a new baby, named William. Ellen's obituary says she was born in County Cork, but we aren't sure about where in Ireland Patrick was born.

Ellen remarried and her children were named Daniel, George, Julia, Cornelius, Mary Ellen and Denis.

I understand how hard it is to find a specific Daly family in Ireland and I continue to research, but if any of this sounds familiar, please let me know!

I am trying to find the parents of Caroline Brown, b. 2 April 1811 and d. 5 Aug 1847 according to family records. She may have been the dau of Nathaniel Brown and his wife Lucy Ann Farr of Queensbury. She died 5 Aug 1847 in Whitehall or Fort Ann - records written in the 1880's actually say "Whitehall or Fort Ann". She married Ansel Shepard/Shepherd of Fort Ann in 1826. He remarried to Diana Draper after her death and removed to Bennington County, VT and all family followed him within 10 years as far as I can tell.

Thanks in advance! I have a lot of info on her children which I will be glad to share.

Miles MARK in Kingsbury Town, 1800

Miles MARK was in Kingsbury, Washington County, New York, when the 1800 census was taken. He was in Bristol Town, Ontario County, New York in 1820 and he set up a blacksmith shop in Sherman Town, Chautauqua County, New York in about 1825. I can find no record of him after that year. His wife's name might have been Martha.

Miles had a son, Aaron, born March 13, 1799, probably in Kingsbury Town, who died August 30, 1876, probably in Silver Creek, Chautauqua County. He married Lodasca BRIGHAM and they had at least seven children, all born in Silver Creek.

Miles also had a daughter, Azubah, born about 1803 in Kingsbury Town and died January 25, 1888, in Los Angeles, California. Azubah married Aaron WILCOX in about 1827, probably in Ontario or Monroe County, New York. They migrated to Lenawee County, Michigan and had eight children. Their youngest son, Horace, is my great-grandfather.

There were probably at least four other sons in Miles' family.

Does anyone have any additional information about this MARK family?

Richard Welch

Susan ROBINSON (1838-?) married ???? ODERKIRK. She had lived in Johnstown, NY with her parents, Isaac (1814-1893) and Catherine PEFFER ROBINSON (1813-1892), along with her siblings Myron W., Franklin P., Seaman (?) and William S. Robinson. Isaac (son of Daniel and Susan Robinson) was reportedly born in Rhode Island, and Catherine was born in Lake George. Susan Robinson-Oderkirk and her husband moved to Philedelphia, and that is where I lose track of them. Any information regarding Mr. ODERKIRK, any ROBINSON, or any PEFFER would be extremely helpful.
While looking for information on Clements family, I came upon some information on this Shaw Family:
Chester, Warren County, NY 1860

Ben Shaw age 52 Farmer
Sabrina Shaw age 55
Lucinda Shaw age 90, born in Rhode Island
Lorina Pettys age 84
John Clements age 25, Farmer, born Ireland, My third ggrandfathr.
Julia A Clements age 20
Laura Clements age 2 mths.
Stephen Shaw age 7
Next door I find:
Joseph Shaw age 57 Farmer
Olive Shaw age 48
Amy s. Shaw age 12
Their is one other child age 8 living there also, but hard to decipher what the name is. My guess was Wm Morris?

I have more information on the Decendents of John and Julia Shaw Clements, if anyone is researching this branch of the family.

I also looked at an 1855 Census for Warren Co, again Chester is the town:
Benjamin B Shaw age 42 Farmer born in New York
Sabrina Shaw age 46 House keeping, born in New York
Julia A Shaw age 10 born in New York
Lucinda Shaw age 82 born in Rhode Island
Jeremiah Pettys age 76 born in Rhode Island
Lorina Pettys age 73

Living next door:
Joseph Shaw age 46
Olivia Shaw age 40
Jane Shaw age 17
Sophia Shaw age 2
Orlando Shaw age 26, does not show his relationship .

I notice the discrepancy with Julia's age, but that just seems to be an error, as I find her again in the 1880 census and her age is given as 40,,, giving her birth year 1840,

Hope this helps someone else in their search.

I am looking for information on William Johnson, born 31 Dec. 1766 in Coventry, R.I., son of Edmund and Sarah (Potter) Johnson. Edmund moved with his family to Stillwater, Saratoga County, sometime in the 1780s. In 1830 Lewis Scott of Greenfield, Saratoga Co., testified that he was acquainted with William, who had lived in Luzerne, but was then deceased. H.P. Smith in his History of Warren County says that William Johnson was an early town clerk of Luzerne and that the town stocks were built near his house in 1810. Is he the William Johnson, Sr. (over 45) living in Athol in 1820? I have info. on his ancestors, but would very much like to know about William, his wife, and children.

I need any info I can get on Mary Nancy Dingman, b. abt 1854 in Stony Creek, or her children. She supposedly married Joseph Ildege (David) Magneron dit LaJeunesse, probably about 1872, in Stony Creek. They had two children while living in Stony Creek, a daughter Marie Louise Justine b. 9 May 1873 and a son Joseph Edouard Daniel b. 19 Jul 1874, d. 17 Sep 1875. Mother and both children were baptized Catholic 18 Jul 1875 when they all apparently returned to his home. They had another daughter, Malvina Helene in Joliette, Quebec, in 1876 who only lived a day.

After that Mary Nancy disappears. No death record, no record of the oldest daughter. Did she return to Stony Creek? Joseph Ildege marries again in the upper peninsula of Michigan in 1879. Is my g-gdad a bigamist?

Who are Mary Nancy's parents? What is her birthdate? When did she and Joseph marry? And whatever happened to her?

Bethiah Graves died October 20, 1851 in Johnsburg NY. She was 72 years old, making 1779 her birth year. She is buried in North River Cemetery, tombstone states she is wife of John Graves.
In the 1850 census she is listed in the household of John Brown. His wife is Thankful Brown. I am making an assumption that Thankful is Bethiah's daughter, therefor maiden name of Thankful Graves. She was born about 1800.
Also in this cemetery are children of Horatio and Betsey Graves, who died from 1851-1870 time period which would make Horatio about the right age for a sibling to Thankful. Horatio and Betsey are not buried there.
In addition, Olive Graves Anthony is buried there. She was born 1818. She could also be a sibling.
I am looking for evidence that Thankful was a Graves and that her parents are John and Bethiah Graves.
Any information on this Graves family would be greatly appreciated.

They had three children: Horton B b. abt 1857, Halsey E b. March 8, 1875, Herbert b. April 1878. They had 4 children Hazel A b. March 6, 1894, Edith M b.
Hello,
I'm looking for marriage records for Warren County. I went to LDS.org and they only have marriage records from 1908 to 1935 on microfilm. I'm looking for marriages from the 1850's to 1900. Are there any books or other resources that might have this information? Since most of my dates are aprox's from the census records & obits I can't give any firm dates. But I do have some firm family names. Any help that people can give me would be great. Ideas's where to look or I can pay for copies and time.
Thanks

BURT/HARRIS - Harrisena Warren County

I'm looking for information on Isaac T. Burt and his wife Paulina Harris Burt. I found their graves at Harrisena Church last year but have been unable to find any other records on them. The exist in a couple of censuses for Harrisena prior to their deaths in 1883 and 1871.

I cannot confirm either's parents or children. Allegedly, they are the parents of Mary Ann Burt, who married my great great grandfather George Blake. Mary Ann Blake died in 1905. I have been unable to find a long form death record for her indicating who her parents might be.

Paulina is alleged to be the child of Moses B. Harris and Lois Jenkins but is not mentioned in H. Russell Harris's book as a child of that union.

Judge Austin - if you are reading this and have anything on the Burts, can you please give me a lead? I'm really stuck. Likewise, anyone else who might be working on Burt family history in Upstate NY/ Warren County.. you may have a clue for me. Thanks.
Hello,

I'm looking for information on a branch of my family that apparently originated in Warren County.

My gr. gr. gr. grandfather was Myron Howe. He was born, according to original family records, in Potterville, Warren County, New York, on 4 Aug 1821. He married a woman named Ruth Tripp, who was born, according to same records, in 1820 somewhere in New York.

I have no record of when or where they were married, which leads me to believe they probably married in New York. They apparently traveled to Wisconsin sometime prior to 1858, for their daughter Adelia was born 22 Jun of that year in Winnebago County, which is where my mother's family lives today.

I have a nebulous little jotting on one of these sheets that claims Myron Howe's father was Joshua Howe, born about 1791, "from" New York. Another lists Ruth Tripp's father as being "from" Rhode Island, and her mother "from" New York. This is all the information I have, so I'm hoping someone will recognize these names and dates and help me fill in the gaps. Feel free to contact me if anyone can help.

Thank you,

Dave Irving (perfessordave@hotmail.com)

My great great grandfather Fredrick Fields was married in Glens Falls to Almina Brossard on 26 June 1870.

My understanding was that Fredrick Fields was the sone of John and Sophia (Sofa). He may have been the oldest of 3 brothers.

I'm at a complete standstill here. Any information anyone has to share before his marriage would be incredibly helpful :)

- Noel
