I am seeking information on the parents and siblings of Lyman Avery Brown and Martha Clapp who lived in Sheldon, Genesee (now Wyoming), NY in 1840. Both were born in New York, Martha probably in Bennington and I think that Lyman was also probably born nearby.

I have pasted additional information on this family:

Generation 1

1.	Lyman Avery Brown Sr.-1 was born on 22 Aug 1813 in New York (1850 and 1860 Census say born in NY…one obit says he was born in MA, but every census says NY and that his parents were both born in NY). He died on 02 Oct 1895 in Franklin, Venango, Pennsylvania, USA.

Martha Clapp was born in about1812 in Bennington, Wyoming, New York, USA (all census have her two years older than Lyman). She died in Sep 1884 in Franklin, Venango, Pennsylvania, USA (would like finding obituary or cemetery records.

Lyman Avery Brown Sr. and Martha Clapp were married before 1838 (based on Lyman Jr’s birth date)in Wyoming County (then Genesee), New York, USA.

I am researching Captain Henry Parks who join the 9th Cavalry Company A. He was born in 1848 to James Parks of Pennsylvania and Rachel White of New York. Henry Parks earned the Medal of Honor at the battle of Cedar Creek. I grew up in Orangeville and attended the little church in Johnsonburg so if anyone could tell me where Henry Parks lived in Orangeville that would be super. I do know he spent 40 years in the service moved to Alpine. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery...

My Grandfather, Wesley Parmerter, was born in Johnsonburg in 1896 at his grandfather Skinners house. After he died, my grandfather's father, Willis Parmerter, bought the house and came to live there with his family and his mother-in-law. He lived there, celebrating his 60th wedding anniversary (Warsaw Newspaper) until about 1948 when he died. Willis picked up the mail from the post office and took it a mile to the train, by wagon or cutter depending on the season. Then he brought the mail back after the train arrived. the track area can be seen by tracing it on google maps, but was evidently taken out some years ago. He is buried in the Johnsonburg cemetery, as I think his wife Inez is also. I have been trying to find my grandfather's birth record, but no one seems to have it, except the state of NY (and they list him as being born in Johnsonburg). It seems that Johnsonburg was a town at some point but I have no idea where the records went--neither Orangeville or Sheldon can find them. Any idea except for waiting for them to come back from NYS?
Also interested in any info anyone might have about my great grandparents. The newspapers scanned and indexed on Fulton Postcards are wonderful sources--if anyone hasn't tried them.

Thanks,
Glenn Adams

Michael,

It's been a long time since you posted this message, but I'll try anyway. I am interested in the children you listed for Levi Relyea, in particular, Simon Relyea. Simon was my husband's GGGGrandfather. He was born about 1820 and lived in Newburgh and Warwick (according to census records). I believe he might be the son of Levi Relyea, but I can't prove it. I noticed they both listed "basket maker" as their occupation. Simon Relyea married Margaret Kelley sometime between 1850 and 1855. They had several children: George, Mary, Sarah, Alida, Simon, William, Martha, and Charles. Our line hooks up with Charles. It looks like Simon leaves Margaret and marries Sarah L Ashley, who had been living in their home and had 2 children of her own. The census shows they have several children as well. Simon was 12 to 15 years older than Margaret, so he may have been married before. I would be very grateful for any information you have regarding Simon Relyea and/or Levi. I've researched the family trees on Ancestry, but have found some conflicting information.

Thanks for your help.
Virginia O'Connell

I hope Momaneyj sees this. I would love to share info about all the Doolittle/Northrup marriages. After my Joel Doolittle's wife (Ruth Northrup) died, he married Sarah Williams, daughter of Simeon. These families had lived in Moriah, Essex Co NY in 1810.

And to Brenda, you mentioned that your Abigail Williams' father might be Dudley Williams. Dudley was a first name used a lot by my branch of the Williams family. Simeon Williams (b. 1765 in Stonington CT) had a brother and a son with that name.

I had also thought that Abigail might be the daughter of Judah Williams, but I cannot find proof of that.

I have a Joshua Hart b. 1807 in NY, possibly in Wyoming or Westchester County. He married in 1835 in NY, bride's name unknown. They had a daughter, Amanda E. Hart, b. 1836.

Joshua Hart and family moved to Indiana by 1843. His daughter Frances Ellen Hart was born there in 1843, and his wife died shortly thereafter. He sent the younger daughter to live with relatives in MI, particularly Lent Wicker and Laura Miller. Laura Miller was born in Wyoming County in 1820. Her parents were Joseph Miller and Aurilla Perkins.

I want to find out the name of Joshua Hart's wife, and to see if there is a Wyoming County connection.

Thanks so much. I have quite a few blurbs from that site for him. Mainly from the Warsaw area papers. And yes, C D Fisk is what he went by and they were in Byron in 1920. I just had not done that exact search string before. Back to Fulton History I go!
Thanks again.
Deb

This sounds like a great mystery for Ask Ancestry Anne. I'm not sure how to get a hold of her, but you can try sending your story to ask@ancestry.com and see if it gets to her. Or maybe there's a form on ancestry.com, or the blogs. . .

I am searching for the birth parents and possibly adoptive parents of my great grandfather Charles D. Fisk b: 10 Aug 1846 in Java, NY; d: 18 Dec 1823 in Warsaw, NY at the home of his wife's nephew James Brotherton (from his obit).

Sometime before 1880 he married Laura Josephine Downing of Wethersfield. I have loads of information on her and have traced many of her lines to medieval England. But Charles is a true brick wall.

The family story passed down says he was born with the last name of Mann, but raised as a Fisk. Yet I cannot find any proof of either. I have been researching this man so many years I have lost count of them!

I have records from the civil war, but none of them list parents names. His death certificate states parents names "cannot be learned". I've researched old newspapers and found mentions of him when he and Laura were living in Perry. But any reference to family always goes back to Laura's family. Including the Brothertons. I have also spent many hours browsing probate and guardianship records at LDS. Nothing there either. And obviously I've spent a lot of time over the years reviewing census records and trailing possible families with Charleses to wrong people.

I did the DNA testing here, but of course, that has not helped at all. With anything really ;)

My tree is online and the file name is dfisktree and user name is fiskd1.

I guess I'm hoping that Charles will ring a bell with somebody, although I know that isn't likely. But if somebody has a suggestion or idea for where to go from here, I would love to hear it.

I am wondering if this "Huldah Rowley Hamlin" was the Huldah Rowley b. c. 1764 who married an Eleazer Hamlin 14 Oct 1784 at Amenia, Dutchess, New York. But I notice the Findagrave memorial says she was Huldah Rowley Hamilton Nichols. An Eleazer and Huldah Hamlin had a child Alva baptized at Sharon, Connecticut (just over the border) in 1795, and then I find no record of them. An Eleazer and Huldah Hamlin had children in western New York later--possibly the same couple. Perhaps Eleazer died and Huldah married John Nichols.

Thank you for your reply. You might be referring to the grandson of Josiah Boardman. My Josiah Boardman was born in Connecticut in 1759 & married Susannah Hill in 1786 and he died 1817 in Orangeville, NY. I have 4 more generations of the Boardmans if you are interested.

Hi Barb,

It has been quite a while since we last corresponded! I will be glad to help, if I can. I too would like any info on what was cut from the old books.

For starters, my great great grandmother Catherine Diehl Smith (1820-1910) married second Philip Martin Wolf (1807-1882). My great grandfather was Jacob Smith (1842-1927). I have more information on Catherine and her Diehl family than when we last corresponded and would be glad to share it with you.

Contact me at johncharlessmith@verizon.net and we will go from there.

Best regards, John

Warren Mann's parents are James Mann and Eunice Price.

1a - James Mann is born 1759 in New York, died in 1839, Nauvoo, Il

1b - Eunice Price is born 1770, the LDS family search records say she died in 1840 but I believe that is incorrect because James Mann married a second time on 05 Jun 1813 to Susanna Tewey in Bastard Township, Leeds County, Ontario

2 - James Mann weds Eunice Price 31 May 1788 – (probably in Vermont?)
https://new.familysearch.org/en/action/openpopup?dest=eventd...

3 - James & Eunice Mann have 10 children;
https://new.familysearch.org/en/action/openpopup?dest=splitp...
--------------------------------------------------------
Polly Mann (1789-)
Elizabeth Mann (1791-)
John P.
This is a good newspaper site that is a little frustrating to search, but it is free. I searched on "hugh lafferty" silver springs and found many articles, including one about his daughter Mrs. Snyder visiting. Try a search with all of your names, putting them in quotes, plus the place name. http://www.fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html

I'm looking to find some information regarding my paternal grandparents (and their ancestors also).

My grandfather, Joseph W. Snider (b. Jan 25 1897, Wyoming, NY, d. 2/1966, Florida)was the son of Frank H. Snider (b.10/29/1869, d.11/30/1937) and Bridget Thompson (b.2/1872 Covington, NY, d. 4/1/1945 Pavillion, NY).

My grandmother, Genevieve Lafferty (b.12/14/1901, Silver Springs, NY, d. 6/16/1988 Buffalo, NY) was the daughter of Hugh Lafferty (b. 12/16/1865 Portageville, NY, d. 7/11/1937 Silver Springs, NY) and Mary McTigue (b. 11/14/1865 Portageville, NY, d. 7/5/1940 Detroit, Michigan)

I was wondering if there are good resources that I could use to find out more information about the families. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! Michelle
Hi Andy,

I'm not researching this tree, but I wanted to thank you for what you and your sons are doing.

I have an uncle who was killed in Belgium in WWII. His wife and son have both passed, and I don't believe they were ever able to visit his final resting place. I can only hope that someone as kind as you is taking care of his grave.

From all of us with family members buried overseas - thank you.

Michel, Wisconsin
