OUR LODGE'S FOUNDING HISTORY
Letter dated April 28, 1866:
To the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Texas,
We the undersigned, being Master Masons of good standing, and having the prosperity of the Craft at heart, are anxious to exert our best endeavors to promote and defend the genuine principles of Freemasonry and for the convenience of our respecitve dwellings, and other good reasons, we are desirous of forming a new Lodge to be named, John Armstrong Lodge. We, therefore, respectively pray for a dispensation empowering us to meet at the new Lodge room on Hog Creek in Bosque County on the Saturday night after the full moon of each month, and there to discharge the duties of Ancient Craft Masonry in a Constitutional manner, according to the forms of the Order and the Laws of the Grand Lodge. And we have nominated, and do recommend Brother John Armstrong to be first Master, Brother J.K. Helton to be the first Senior Warden, and Brother L. H. Scrutchfield to be the first Junior Warden of the Lodge. The prayer of this petition being granted, we promise strict obedience to the Commands of the Grand Master, and the laws and regulations of the Grand Lodge.

TRIBUTE OF RESPECT Rest, Brother, rest: thy toils of life are over, the crown of victory won. At a called meeting of John Armstrong Lodge, No. 291, A. F. & A. M., held in Lodge Room, on Hog Creek, Bosque county, Texas, November 10th. A. D., 1875, the Worshipful Master announced the death of our beloved Brother, B. H. Adams; and, on motion, the undersigned were appointed a committee to report a suitable preamble and resolution, expressing the feeling of our Lodge upon the sad announcement, and they report the following:
...Died, at his residence, in Bosque county, Texas, November 9th, 1875. B. H. adams, aged sixty years. Such is the brief record that tells of one of our most worthy members and citizens, a man whol peaceabe, industrious and law abiding, whose hand was ever open to the wants of the needy, and heart ever responding to the cries of the distressed. Out Brother was a Mason in its true sense, ever faithful to his obligations that bind together our Mystic Order.
...He was not only a Mason, but a Christian, a devoted follower of our Great Master, Therefore, be It
...Resolved, That in the death of Bro. Adams we have lost an honest, faithful friend, and our Lodge one of its most worty members.
...Resolved, That we attend the funeral of our Brother, and bury him according to the rules of our Order, and that we wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days.
...Resolved, That we tender to his bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy, and that the Secretary be requested to spread the foregoing preamble and accompanying resolutions upon the minutes of our Lodge, furnish to bereaved family with a copy, and send one to the editor of the Waco Examiner and Patron for publication.
