I am a direct descendent of Ralph Amidon. He died at a field hospital near Spotsylvania Va, probable buried there and reinterred in the National Cemetery as an unknown.

1. RALPH5 AMIDON (ROGER4 AMIDOWN, ROGER3, PHILLIP2, ROGER1 AMMADOWNE)1 was born May 03, 1772 in Douglas, Ma.2, and died October 31, 1856 in Michigan3. He married SALLY BROWN January 12, 1797 in Douglas, Ma.4, daughter of JOHN BROWN and MARY. She was born November 02, 1778 in Massachusettes5,6, and died January 26, 1871 in Andover , New York.

Notes for RALPH AMIDON:
They came from Vermont with several children and settled in Hartsville, New York, between 1837 and 1840. ( Source: A Gazeteer of Steuben, Co., New York- pp.341-342).

We find him just over the Hartsville, line in Greenwood, New York in the 1850 census ( he 78 years, she 72 years old). He and Mrs. Amidon were by themselves and he was attempting to farm. Evidently, their children decided that they needed more care than they could provide for each other, and took them individually into their homes. They had been married about 53 years. Ralph went with a son to Michigan, apparently their was country he hadn't seen. Sally much more practical, and perhaps not so full of life herself, opted to live with her daughter Fanny and stay put in Andover, New York.

Legend has it that Sally Brown was the daughter of a gypsy.

She was living with her daughter Fanny Hunt at the time of her death.
