The Clapp surname belongs to a a family of German immigrants who settled in eastern Guilford County. They were involed in the founding of a well known German Reformed Church that started in 1759. Its current location is just west of the Guilford County/Alalmance County line (in Whitsett)

If you Google "Old Brick Church" and "Guilford County, NC" at the same time you can find all sorts of info on it. I am descended from the Clapp family, but have not researched back into Guilford County era, yet. The family is pretty well documented back to the 1600's
