I am looking for information on the Hatchetts of Alamance County for the years prior to 1860. These Hatchetts lived somewhere between the upper Haw and Neuse Rivers.
My g-g-grandfather was John Stadlin Hatchett b.30 May 1829, m.20 Jan 1850 to Mary Elizabeth Hughes b. 29 Sept 1825 in what is now Alamance Co.
John's mother was a Simpson and his father was _?__ Hatchett.
Mary Elizabeth was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Hughes and Sarah Hill.
Also, would like any information on John's brother" William "Bill" Hatchett and his wife Sally Baines.
They left Alamance County in 1852 on a wagon train going west to join relatives.
They got as far as Cherokee County NC. Illness struck the train. John and Mary stayed in Cherokee County, as did Andrew Jackson Hughes, his wife and two sons Thomas and Andrew Jackson Hughes, Jr.
Bill Hatchett and his wife lost their infant son in the time of illness. They either returned to Alamance or to Buncombe County.
