Thank you so much for your response!
I too, am beginning to believe that the story that she came from England and was an indentured servant, is just that, a story! Probably told to her children to make her life sound more exciting than it actually was! The "story" was told to my Mother from a descendant of Wiley Combs, I believe, which was horrifying news to my Mother, who never dreamed there would be such an event in her family.
I'm sure that Caroline and Jacob were never married! I have read some of problems and situations that arose from their relationship, as should have been expected by them!
I am a descendant of Henry Clay Combs. Considering the situation with his mother, you can see why Henry moved to Oregon. He married a woman who was fairly well off, having property and some money. He became a farmer and preacher and was considered quite a gentleman in Oregon. He built his wife a lovely large home, that is still occupied to this day. Infact, when I was a child, my parents and I lived in this home.
I really know very little about Jacob Hopper and so would be very pleased if you could share something about him. Was he a farmer? How many children did he and his wife have? When did his family come to America? Where did they come from? Did he have siblings? Do you have any pictures of him or his family? Any information would really be appreciated!
Thank you in advance,
