GLADE VALLEY - Amon C. Edwards, age 89, of State Road, formerly of Glade Valley, died Thursday, February 18, 2010, at the Hugh Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin.
He was the son of the late, Connie and Carrie Reeves Edwards and was also preceded in death by his wife, Frances Bryan Edwards; a son, Ronald Edwards; brothers, Jack and Chap Edwards; sisters, Nina Edwards Williams and Vanalene Edwards Dalton.
He was a graduate of Sparta High School, a member and Elder of Sparta Presbyterian Church, a member and past master of Sparta Masonic Lodge. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, and retired as manager of Skyline Telephone, Sparta office.
He is survived by a granddaughter and spouse, Robin and Ron Turner of Elkin; a grandson and spouse, Bradley C. and Donna Edwards of State Road; four great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 21, at the Glade Valley Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Masonic rites will be conducted at the gravesite by the Sparta Masonic Lodge #423. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. at the Church.
