I realize you posted this several years ago but hope you read this board.A Richard Washington Hawkins (1810-1887) married Elizabeth "Betsy" Greer (dau of Jesse Greer) in Ashe Co. about 1835. Have you found any information on your Sally's parents? I have no proof but feel Richard Washington Hawkins and Sally might be related (brother and sister). Richard moved to Johnson Co., TN by 1840 when he appears on the census. My gr-gr-grandmother was a Nancy Hawkins (b abt 1815 NC) who also moved to Johnson County, TN and may also be a sister of Richard. Was your Sally also born in NC?
The only Hawkins I have found so far living in Ashe Co at about the same time as Jesse Greer is Burton Hawkins shown on the 1830 census as age 40-50 (b 1780-90)Any help would be appreciated. Karen Houtz
