Abraham Pritchett b. abt 1825 North Carolina, d. 1863 Gratiot Street Prison, St Louis MO

I am trying to connect my Abraham Pritchett to the Pritchett family of Beaufort County, NC. My Abraham Pritchett was first discovered as my 3rd great grandmother's (Leanna Jane Pritchett Baker) father. The 1860 census for New Madrid County, Missouri shows Abraham Pritchett age 35 b. NC living with wife, Virginia (Hunot) age 23, daughter Jane age 4 and son, Lewis age 1 month. They also had a son later named Edward b 1862. In 1850 Beaufort County, NC we can find Abraham age 24 living in the household of Lorenzo D. Langley along with Lorenzo's son, Ferdinand age 4; and presumably Abraham's siblings Martha age 14; Mary age 11; and Alexander age 10. I am trying to discover the parents of Abraham and why he is living with this Lorenzo Langley. Was he a guardian for Abraham's siblings? Any information would be appreciated. By the way, Abraham was captured in New Madrid county, MO as a prisoner of war by the union and he later died while in prison at Gratiot St. Prison in St Louis 25 Jan 1863.

I have no transportation to Beaufort county. But, I will inform my family in Pitt county about the relation and try to get at least some of us to go to the next one. I am related to Samuel Chapman 1878 born in Craven county, and Nancy Chapman born in 1845 born in North Carolina. She lived in Craven county.

Hello, I'm Christin Gorham and I was wondering if anyone had information on the Cogdell family from Jones county. My great great grandfather Gilford Cogdell jr was born 1878. He had four brothers Thomas, Pete, Linwood, and Nathan. He had three sisters Pearlett, Roberta, and Retha. His parents were Gilford Cogdell sr and Sylvia Cogdell. Gilford Cogdell jr's wife was Ophelia Davis. The Cogdell family is known for being mulatto and I would like any other information on them such as Sylvia's maiden name.

Unfortunately, I am not a Gorham. It's complicated story, but my surname is from my Uncle, on my paternal side. He is Gorham, Frank Gorham. I am actually a Keyes. My father is also a Keyes, but we both took the Gorham surname of my uncle and my uncle's father. My grandfather is Robert Keyes, and my grandmother told me that he was from Virginia. But, I have heard about the Keyes in Free Union and Beaufort county. I'm not sure if I am connected to them. Also, It looks like I'm probably related to Essie Williams Chapman and Laurie Chapman. I thought they were named Linnie Williams and Samuel Chapman due to my great grandfather being secretive about his family. I found that Essie Williams Chapman and Laurie Chapman was a good match on ancestry.com.

Christin, let me know if anyone is interested in coming to the St. Clair, Chapman, Tripp reunion coming up. It is on June 29 - July 1st. It will be held in Little Washington, NC. Maybe we can put all of our info together & figure this Chapman tree out further.

Hi Chris. From what my grandmother used to tell me we are. I am glad you reached out. We are having an reunion soon in little Washington. Which set of Chapmans are you related to?I believe that you are also a part of the Langley family too. My great cousin Author Cobb told me that the name Gorham was a part of the Langley family. The name was changed or something like that. Do you know any Langley's in Beaufort county?

Hello I'm Christin Gorham, I'm a Chapman also, but my Chapmans were in Craven and Pitt counties. I was wondering if any of you know if the Chapmans in Beaufort are related to the Chapmans in the Pitt and Craven counties? There were several set of Chapmans in Vanceboro that are possibly related.

I'm writing regarding my wife's recently discovered ancestors who lived in Shackelfords Bank and Harkers Island as well as Beaufort.

They were the "mulatto" Windsors--Cavino (Cavanaugh) Windsor + his wife Lucy Guthry, who was white (both born 1792) and their sons Ananias Windsor (b. 1819, married to Asa Sawyer) and Samuel Windsor (b. 1825). The names "Ananias" and "Cavanaugh" leads me to assume some sort of connection to Ananias Cavanaugh or that family.

I'm trying to find out the history of the Windsors in particular though I also am interested in the Guthrys and Sawyers. They were perhaps the descendents of slaveowners and slaves from the 1700s, and I'm trying to identify their ancestors prior to 1792 perhaps back to the first settlers of the area, maybe in earlier census records that are not readily available online. Who were they?

Any help, advice or direction you can provide would be much appreciated!
btw// .. there is a $37.50 price sticker on the inside of the book. This book had never been opened. So perhaps the 37 bucks was for back in 1986. Possibly much more in cost today.
