The bad thing is: they recycled names, a lot! For instance, I have a son and want to name him after my grandfather so I give my son my grandfather's first name and my father's middle name. And they didn't just do it for the boys because there are a lot of Elizas, Marys and I could go on but I think/hope you get the point. Without being able to talk to someone, one could easily put grandma or aunt Sarah with uncle or cousin James especially with the larger families of the day. You can have a nephew that lives on the same farm and is older than some of his aunts and uncles (my husband is one of a dozen & his mama kept some of the grandchildren with her).
