I too have Singletary's of Bladen County, NC in my family tree. They mingled with the Grimes' and other neighboring farming families. Do you have a Mary Eliza Singletary born 12 Jan 1847 who married Archie Grimes Sr and had 11 kids? I am also fairly new at this ancestry but I had a living headstart as my great-great grandmother Zetty R. (King) Grimes died during my high school senior year @ the ripe age of 100.
