"Dr. BEATTY is an adopted Citizen of Alabama and Mobile. He was born in Wilmington, NC June 17 1823, educated at Chapel Hill University and a graduate of medicine of both the Medical College of New York and of Philadelphia - A practitioner of large experience in Southern maladies, gained both in private practice and in field experiences, while acting as Surgeon in Chalmer's famous brigade. He was capable of rendering the needful medical help required in the epidemic, and his record of approved skill and success in Grenada [MS, where he volunteered his medical services during the yellow fever epidemic of 1877]...." The Mobile Register, 1878. Dr. BEATTY lived in Tuscaloosa after the WBTS; lived in Chatanooga TN, and lived for awhile in Birmingham AL were he died on Nov. 11, 1896. His wife Rebecca Troy BEATTY survived him 16 years.
I am desc. from Douglas Pearson BEATTY (m. Lizzie Moseley HENRY) his youngest brother. They both were sons of Wm. Gibbs BEATTY and his wife Eliza Mumford PEARSON, and grandsons of "the old gentleman" Wm. Henry BEATTY and his wife Sophia GIBBS, of Pleasant Retreat, their home at Beatty's Bridge, Bladen Co., NC.
