Looking for information on Harbert TAYLOR (Sr.) of Bladen County. Old family Bible states he was from Ireland. Land record shows he was in Bladen County as early as the first half of 1770s. Married Jane MANLY, dau. of Thomas & Mary (Ford) MANLY, prob. during the same time period. Jane's brother, John Basil MANLY (father of NC Governor Charles MANLY), also resided in Bladen County, and when Harbert and Jane died (prob. late 1780s or thereafter), John Basil MANLY raised two of their sons. The Manly Family Bible lists eldest son of Harbert & Jane as Canellum TAYLOR, b. 10-30-1774, d. 1-4-1848 in Medon, TN. Also lists son, John Manly TAYLOR, b. 3-16-1786, d. 2-11-1872, Monroe Co., GA. There is a reference to a possible sister named Ann. It is quite possible that there were more Taylor children -- at least one more. First, Canellum was b. 1774 and John was b. 1786 -- that's a 12-year gap. Second, on the 1790 Bladen County federal census, there are THREE young males under the age of 16 in Harbert & Jane's household, not just two. There are no young females. I believe the third son was my gr-gr-gr-gr-grandfather, Harbert TAYLOR (Jr.), b. sometime betw. 1780-1790. I have been told there is a Bladen County baptismal record for a child named "H. Taylor" between the time period of 1780-1790, but I have yet to locate it. Lastly, old Bladen County tax records indicate that Harbert TAYLOR (Sr.) resided in the same 'neighborhood' as John TAYLOR (Sr.) and John TAYLOR (Jr.) My Harbert TAYLOR (Jr.) ended up in Pulaski Co., GA before 1814 and seemed to be connected some way to a 'Jonathon TAYLOR' who resided near him. If anyone has information on this family, please contact me.
