I am planning a trip to Asheville and Charlotte to research my Woodard (also Woodward), Lytle, Reid, and Dickson ancestors from 1800 to 1920 and would like some suggestions on where to research. They lived in Swannanoa, Asheville, and Black Mountain in Buncombe Co., NC and Paw Creek and Charlotte in Mecklenburg Co., NC. These families are African American and European. I found some of my ancestors' names in the Old Mecklenburg County deed books and I have some actual addresses, so I'm thinking that land records and city directories may be a good place to start. Thanks for any ideas on good research locations!
