I have some notes on these Woodards that might help.

10/1767 Bute Co court minutes. Ordered that William Woodward's list be annext to Matthew Thomas's list

2/12/1772 Bute Co court minutes - Solomon Dossey proved a deed from William Woodward to Thomas Bell

3/9/1778 Bute Co deed - Solomon Dossey and Elias Dossey wit a deed from Guly Pearcy to William Woodward

11/10/1778 Bute court minutes - bill of sale proved by Solomon Dawsey from July Pearcy to William Woodward

This Woodward family was also closely associated with the family of William Percy Sr d 1776 Bute - will named Pattey & July & to Joel Woodward land where his father now lives in father's possession until of age. Also Betsy Percy Jr & Pitsey, William son of Algenons, William Percy son of John Percy, legacy to Sarah Woodward.

5/1777 inventory of William Pierce dec'd Bute Co by William Woodward extr (not named in will)

6/15/1778 Bute land entry - Philn [Philemon] Hawkins - 150a both sides Sandy Cr adj Jno Terrell, William Woodard, Gooding's, Elias Dorsey by virtue of former entry 2/23/1763

1778 Bute Co will of John Linch wit by Matthew Myrick (jurat), Samuel Woodward (jurat), Sarah Woodward

It sounds like William Woodward might have married a daughter of William Percy/Pearcy/Pierce. Also notice that a Samuel Woodward was in Bute at the same time.

So does this relate?

Samuel Woodward to Paul Bunch. 640 acres in ye precinct of Bertie on Chinkapin Creek; September 6, 1735. Test WM PEARSEY, John Meadoys, Robert Robinson

This is probably land that would now be in Hertford Co. I believe the records there were destroyed.

Because of the Jordan and Bunch deeds below, I believe this was probably the Samuel Woodward who married an unknown daughter of Joseph Small. Another daughter married Shadrack Bunch and two more daughters married Jordans.

Perhaps you can find more about this William Percy/Pearcy/Pierce to make the connection.
