It is amazing how one's memories of a place differ from what is in the present. I don't remember the porch at all, and the siding on the building has been greatly altered. What I recall were steps leading up to the double doors, and the building was set back into a grove of trees, most likely oaks. There were wide corner boards or pilasters at the corners which added to the vertical aspect of the building; and I seem to recall some ornate drop turnings along under the returns of the gable ends. There may even have been some shutters on the upper windows. My recollection was of a more elegant structure than one would suspect from the more recent photo. I have always had a penchant for uniquely designed old buildings, but would have not recognized the building as it is today. Would that we could strip away that aluminum siding as see what remains of the original structure!!
