In 1850 and in 1860 .
Their daughter Margaret was born in Monroe, Tennessee in 1826 .
She married Amos Carden.
They lived in Cherokee County as well as HotHouse, Cherokee, NC.
1860 census shows Margaret and children living in Cherokee, NC.
And that's all I know right now.
Have you heard of my line? If so, I would be so grateful for anything you
can tell me. Thank you - Debra

I got very excited when I discovered these messages. I have been researching this family for 25 years and have made 0 progress. My great grandmother was Alyce or Alice Belle Brannon. We are told she is part Cherokee Indian, but we have never found the connection. I have not been able to find Alyce's parents names anywhere, not even on a marriage certificate. I have bee told that she is from TN. and probably Cherokee. I think I may have found her in Hamilton Co., TN. at age 11, living with her Grandfather, George and grandmother, Mary. Any information would be helpful. Thanks a bunch in advance.

Yes, thank you. I already have this info attached in my tree, & it says Jane was widowed when this census was taken. But I'm still confused. If my great grandmother Barbara already had Octave (Ectava) BEFORE she married Bill/Henery Anthony, then WHO was really Octave's father? And was "James " nicknamed "Jack"? Because that's what I read in another post..that Jack & Octavia were born before Barbara Hartness marries Bill Anthony, & Hartness is Barbara's maiden name. That's what's throwing me off, & I have no one from that side to ask.

Sharon

Hi
I'm looking for information on my paternal grandmother, Octavia (Harness?)Anthony Carroll (her son, Jake Hayes, is my father). From what I can gather, her mother was Barbara (Barbry?)Hartness, but I can't find anything listing her as Barbara's daughter in any records.

She was married to Miles Augustus Carroll.

On the death certificate, dated Jan. 21, 1973, it also lists a "Henery Anthony" as her father, and her given name as "Octave".

I did come across a post on here that mentioned both Octavia and "Jack" were both born before Barbara married "Bill" Anthony.

I do know they lived in Notla community, and my dad was born in Cherokee county.

Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated, as I seem to have hit a wall at this point in my research.

my ;;gg pmaternal grandfather was elisha thompson from beaver dam, cherokee co nc; i believe neamiah was his brother; they were both in the thomas walker legion of the civil was and one played a drum, and the other a fife (in later years, he had 2 dogs, one named fife, and one named drum).....clever.
anyway, he was married in his youth and had a dtr, sarah, and a son, bud----but then he "hooked up" with lucreasa jane lambert. having a lot of trouble here, as it is assumed they married, but i cannot find divorce or marriage info, and her death cert lists her as lucreasa jane lambert(h). i found her in a census w/a L. R. Mount, merchant, and she was listed as a laborer. to complicate matters, there was a lot of speculation about why they up and left hurridly in the middle of the night one night--GM said that he came in, had GM lucreasa pack what they could into a quilt, and "up and left" with their baby for KY right then and there in the middle of the night. i often wondered if it was something like war crimes, or perhaps his first wife's family resented the second family situation???
wonder if your neamian IS, indeed, my elisha's brohter?

your GF was my great uncle, willie; his sister, betty mae thompson troxell, was my paternal gm--my fathe is her son, robert. yes, he was a really nice gentleman.
we are all searching for the same info--what you have seems to be right on. i have been on the trail of lucreasa and seem to be slowly progressing...will be perseverent, and will be glad to share what i have as it gels into place.
yes, i have theorized about elisha's rapid exit to ky ofter--GM said the law came looking for him one time after he got to KY,and he hid from them and they left, so i think there was something to it re: war charges. i have a picture of lucreasa and elisha in their older years, and he is rather tall for the time.
debbie hayes

Hi, I am the granddaughter of Ballard Neece of Dickenson County, Virginia. He did have a brother by the name of John Neece and a sister by name of Lena. Ballard's birthday was said to be in the year 1900. He married Sloney Counts and had 18 children,9 of which died in youth. Today, Both Ballard and Sloney are deceased and 2 of his children recently died. I don't know where Lena was born nor do I know of her being an Indian medicine women. Although,I have heard family rumors of indian mixes. I do not remember ever meeting her. My memories are dim about actual fact but I believe that Ballard was the son of Elijah Neece and that he, John, and Lena had other brothers and sisters as well.I know nothing of the "Mann" familly in that area. Ironically, I married a man with the last name "Mann", though he is not from that area but comes from a line on the West Coast.

SAMUEL WILLIAMS and they lived in FANNIN CO., GA. until @1860...she doesn't show on the census in 1860 and SAMUEL is married to another in 1870...i have had no luck in finding her either dead or alive after that...i have a few clues that she came from BUNCOMBE CO. N.C., but no solid proof...one of her dau.'s enrolled on GUION MILLER ROLLS as cherokee indian...was rejected..several others also did the same...i believe they were truly indians.. just did't have any written proof, and diddn't sign up for any gov't rolls due to fear of gov't...if you fund any thing in his papers that would help me to establish who ROSANNAH WAS, I WOULD THEN BE VERY INTERESTED IN A COPY...IF I COULD THEN AFFORD IT, AS I'M SURE YOU NEED TO COVER YOUR COSTS..thanx..LORD BLESS..bill

Dear Christine,

I just got on Ancestry.com today - a few minutes ago. I specifically joined because I am gooing to write a 50,000 word book through www.nanowrimo.org during the month of November.

Sometime in the early 1970s, I was hiking the Appalachian Trail and met an older gentleman who was squirrel hunting. Long story short, he told me there had been a Pink Berrong who lived in Tate City, GA and that he had disappeared somewhere in the mountains.

I have carried that story deeply etched into my mind for a good portion of my lifetime. I have thought many times that I should research and write about Pink Berrong. I have a friend in Dahlonega, GA, Jimmy Berrong who told me he had an uncle in Clayton, GA who knew or knew about Pink. I never followed up and I feel sure the uncle is probably gone now.

Anyway, I would be most appreciative for anything you might care to share or any research directions you might point me in. I am 65 and retired now, so I want to get down to the business of writing about Pink.

BTW, my maternal grand-mother's maiden name was Bryant - from the are of south Georgia, north Florida.

Blessings!
Kevin
706-974-6893
Sautee Nacoochee, GA

You've got a problem if they were married in Cherokee Co.,NC, all of the records prior to 1865 were destroyed during the Civil War. The County was only in existence since 1839, and prior to that it was a part of Macon County, which was formed in 1828 from Haywood County. Not only was Cherokee hard hit during the Civil War, but it also had Courthouse fires in 1895 and in 1926, which means there are a very limited amount of early records in existence for that County. I don't see ANY marriage records in either Macon or Haywood for ANY persons with the ROE, ROWE/ROW surname for the early 1800s, nor do I see ANY persons with those surnames in pre-1850 Cherokee, Macon, or Haywood Counties.
I took a quick look at your Thomas C. Perry in the Census and find him in 1860, 1870 & 1880 in McDonough Co., IL, and his wife was always listed as born in Tennessee, and their oldest child, Napoleon, b. abt 1847, shows as born in TN. I don't know whether or not the statement in the article you found was correct about their marriage location, but I suggest that you should start looking in TN for the ROWE/ROE family that his wife may have come from.

Deloris

Thanks so much for your reply!

I have an Obituary from the 18 Jul 1889 Colchester Independent Newspaper (Illinois), that reads, Dr. Thomas Clayton Perry was born in Lexington, Georgia in 1871, and was aged 71 years, 11 months, and 2 days. In 1845 he was married to Tillie (although I've seen the name Telissa, Talissa, and Felicia used) Ataline Rowe, in Cherokee, Co., N.C., who survives him through 64 years.

Some recorded oral histories from family indicates that Telissa Ataline Rowe was from Peachtree Creek, North Carolina and yet another indicates from GA. Early census records all have North Carolina as her place of birth (and once even as Tennessee), but I'm pretty sure it should be NC.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could perform a lookup for me on this.

Thanks so much for your help!

Cherokee County, NC did not exist before 1839, when it was formed from Macon County. References to Cherokee at this time period (early 1800's) may mean Cherokee Indian Territory, not Cherokee County.

The spelling of the surname ROE vs ROWE wouldn't make much of a difference, often the names were interchangeable since there was no standard way to spell names in the first place.
If you want to find a marriage, or any other records for that matter, it would help if you give some additional info such as the name of the husband and what other records have you found them in. Someone may able to do a look up in records for you if we had this additional info.

Deloris Williams
