I attended EMI for one semester in 1959. My home was Norfolk, VA. In 1959, as part of the integration efforts, three of the high schools in Norfolk were closed. As you can imagine, the was a mad dash of students transferring to other schools. Many paid tuition to attend schools in adjacent communities Others moved to live with grand-parents.
EMI and Pineland College sent representatives to Norfolk. My parents took me to the hotel where they were staying and I was on my way to Salamburg. When the schools in Norfolk reopened I returned home. I did enjoy my time at EMI.
I recently read the story of the youngest man to ever receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. He had enlisted from EMI.
