The William Riley strikes a cord. I've got an Obedience Smith b abt 1808 who married abt 1826 one John Jones b. abt 1806. They moved to Brown Co., IL about 1837. An allied family of John Grady b. abt 1802 and Nancy Briggs b. abt 1802 named their son William Riley Grady. Now Grady and Briggs were from Davidson Co., NC and I suspect Jones and Smith were as well. Do you have any information that could establish who was the namesake William Riley for your Smith and if Obedience is a family name in your Smith line?
