I found a document in Natchitoches, Louisiana, that reads: "George Cooke, Davidson County, No. Carolina, bound unto John Sutton, Sumner County, No. Carolina, 400 pounds lawful money of the State, 18 July 1787." Was there ever a Sumner County in North Carolina? The original document, written in 1787, no longer exists. This is a typescript (circa 1900) of a handwritten translation from Spanish to English in 1818. Help!
