Well it all started back in;
1640 when Walter Dobbs married Mary Merritt ( My sixth Great Grandparents) Marry Merritt was the sister of Colonel William Merritt (~1641-1708), a wealthy English mariner and merchant who was Mayor of New York City in 1695-98, and one of the founding members of Trinity Church in lower Manhattan New York.
One of their sons John played a key roll in the Dobbs Ferry along with other Family members.
They had five children;
*William Dobbs (our line, my fifth Great Grandparent)
Had a son named:
William H. Dobbs who married Catharina Van Syssen (Fourth Great Grandparent.)

Born 1718 died Sept. 13, 1781
Later known as Captain William H. Dobbs he and the Dobbs Family founded and operated Dobbs Ferry, New York.
During the Revolutionary war Capt. Dobbs was part of George Washington's Secret Service, he spied for Washington, and was mentioned several times in Washington's writings. One, he was said to be Washington's best pilots. He played a key roll in several dangerous operations during the war and fought in several battles along with other Dobbs members including some of his sons.
Captain Dobbs sailed the open seas and was the captain of several ships.
They had seven children:

William DOBBS married Dorcas HARDING, on January 9, 1757, at Trinity Church, New York. She was born about 1731, making her about 15 years younger than William. She survived her husband, and died November 20, 1804 in Hudson, New York, at the home of her daughter Mary (DOBBS) HOLT and son-in-law Charles HOLT, at age 73.

Mary DOBBS (b. August 20, 1771 in Curaçao, West Indies)
Jarvis Dobbs married Elizabeth (our line, Third Great Grandparents)
Born June 11, 1755 died 1815
Jarvis served during the Revolutionary War. Was part of several battles including the battle of Long Island, and battle of White Plains.
They had son named:
Howell Known as H. De Witt Dobbs (my second Great Grandfather)
He was President of Dobbs and Company
Howell had a sons
One of his sons named William H. Dobbs
Owned and operated the Dobbs Hats business located in Manhattan, New York. Around 1930's. the name is still out there today.

They had four children:
August married Camille no children, yet in an application to the sons of the American Revolution he listed as having a child named Charles E. Dobbs born 1947. (Not me)
Must be a family secret??? Maybe he died at birth, I never heard anything about it!

Charles was my father born February, 1914 married to Lillian Tarney September 22, 1922 (my mother during her first marriage had 3 children Jerilyn , Susan, and Michael.)
Charles served in the Army during WWII and was a disabled veteran.
They had one child:
Charles has 3 Children
