1. Mark BRYANT was born before 1745. He died after 1770 in Orange County, NC. 1779 Orange County Tax List:
John Bryant 2310 pounds
Simeon Bryant 815 pounds

Mark BRYANT had the following children:

SECOND GENERATION

2. Mary BRYANT was born in 1767 in Orange County, NC. She died before 1840 in Orange County, NC.

She was married to Mark PICKETT (son of William PICKETT and Elizabeth) on 19 DEC 1792 in Orange County, NC. No date on marriage bond (14 Dec 1792 - 19 Nov 1795 during Gov.
Speight's Term)

Mark PICKETT was born about 1775 in Orange County, NC.
He owned 200 acres on 23 MAY 1792 in Orange County, NC.1 Mark Picket purchased lands from the high sheriff. "... the goods & chattels Lands and Tenements of Mark Patterson [the Pattersons & Picketts were associated in Bertie County before coming to Orange County] , John Barbee [John Barbee married Sarah Patterson] and John Bryant [Pleasant married Mary Bryant later in this year] you cause to be made the sum of four hundred five pounds which lottery in Our County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions Benjamin Yeargen [husband of Sarah Morgan, granddaughter of Sarah Barbee: the Morgans & Barbees were associated in Wales] as guardian of Page Patterson recovered of for damages as also the endorsed fees for costs and charges in said just exchanged whereof the said John Barbee, Mark Patterson & John Bryant are convicted & liable . . . and render the said Benjamin his damages and cost aforesaid herein fail not & have you there this writing . . . the 4th Monday of May A.D. 1792 . . . public sale a certain tract or parcel of land hereafter to be mentioned of the estate of the aforesaid John Barbee sell the said tract or parcel of land unto the above named Mark Pickett. (he being the highest bidder) for the sum of twenty-one pounds six shillings containing by estimation two hundred acres lying and being in the County aforesaid on the waters of New Hope and bounded as follows (To Witt) Beginning at a pine being a corner of Captain John Rhode's thence running south one hundred & thirteen poles to a red oak; thence east two hundred & thirty nine poles to a persimmon & sassafras thence north one hundred and twenty-five poles to a pine on said Rhoads line, thence west one hundred and twenty poles to a pine Thence north thirty-two poles to a pine: Thence west one hundred poles to a pine thence So forty poles to a pine thence west thirty-two poles to the first station containing two hundred acres." He appeared on the census in 1810 in Orange County, NC.2 He owned 18 acres on 26 FEB 1810 in Orange County, NC.3 Purchased from John Rhodes, Esquire for thirteen pounds, eight shillings, six pence 18 acres "on the waters of Second Creek of New Hope bounded as follows Beginning at a pine stump in a field in Mark Picket's line and corner of his other tract thence east twelve chains to a pine then north ten chains to two pines, then north fifty degrees west fifteen three quarters chains to a red oak in his old line, south on said line twenty chains to the beginning containing eighteen acres be the same more or less it being part of a certain tract of land granted from the State aforesaid to John Rhodes, Esq.."

Orange County May Term 1810 He sold on 18 FEB 1820 in Orange County, NC.4 Sold 50 acres to Mark Bryant for $112.50 "on the waters of New Hope beginning at a black oak corner of Henry Trice running thence with his line west thirty-two chains to a stake on the Great Road thence north fifteen chains & thirty-two & a half links to two small lowerwoods thence east thirty-two chains to a pine thence south fifteen & sixty-two & a half links the beginning: containing fifty acres."

Witnessed by Benjamin Rhodes and William Rhodes He owned 100 acres on 23 APR 1821 in Orange County, NC.5 Loaned his brother, Thomas, $150 with 100 acres of Thomas' land as security. The land "making the Hillsborough & New Bern Road the line adjoining the estate of William Rhodes decd, John Rhodes & Asa Evans on second creek of New Hope." He owned 50 acres on 4 NOV 1833 in Orange County, NC.6 Purchased 50 acres for $75 from Asa H. Evans "lying in the fork of Second Creek adjoining the land of Mark Pickett, Chestly [Chesley] Patterson, William Moore & others."
Witnessed by Henry Pickett and William Herndon. He sold on 18 AUG 1847 in Orange County, NC.7 Gave land to grandsons Page, Pleasant, and Henry.

Henry received 80 acres from his grandfather, Mark Pickett, for the sum of $1. "Beginning at the creek where the Hillsboro road crosses, running thence southeastwards with the road eleven chains to a walnut, thence north 57 degrees east east four chains & fifty links to a persimmon on the still b....e branch, thence upto the branch eleven chains & fifteen links to a post oak, then North 7 &1/2 degrees East two chains & forty-five links to a persimmon thence north 41 3/4 degrees East four chains to a branch, thence down the branch to the south fork of the creek, thence down the creek one chain thirty links to a stake near a fork, thence North 16 degrees East twenty chains to a pine stump, thence West twenty-five & half chains to the North branch of the creek, thence down the meanders of said creek to the beginning . . ."

Pleasant received 65 acres from his grandfather, Mark Pickett, for the sum of $1. "Beginning at pointers on the creek a corner of a mill site, running thence south 65 degrees east eleven chains & sixty-five links to a red oak, then south seven & a fourth chains to pointers, thence south 9 degrees west, thirteen & a fourth chains to a persimmon and then south seven chains and eighty links to pointers, then south 28 1/4 degrees east three & three fourths chains & thirty-five links to the creek, then up the creek to an ashe a corner of a mill site, then north 70 degrees east three & a fourth chains to a boundary, then north 30 degrees east two & a fourth chains to a pine stump, then north 25 degrees west four chains to the beginning. . ."

witnessed by Henry D. Trice & C.P. Trice He died after 18 AUG 1847 in Orange County, NC. He was buried after 18 AUG 1847 in Pickett Cemetery, 1 Learned Place, Durham, NC. Buried between the two old cedar trees in Pickett Cemetery which stand six feet 3 inches apart and 19 yards 3 inches from the side of the fence and 7 yards 7 inches from the front of the fence. The trees were damaged by hurricane Fran in September 1996. They were barely alive at that time. He lived at the former home place of William Pickett off Cornwallis Road in Durham, NC. Mark and Mary Pickett raised Henry Pickett due to the large family of Harry Pickett and later deeded land near the home place to Henry Pickett on August 18, 1847.

THIRD GENERATION

4. Henry "Harry" PICKETT was born about 1795 in Orange County, NC. He died in 1856 in Orange County, NC. He was buried in 1856 in Pickett Cemetery, 1 Learned Place, Durham, NC. Family records of Harry and Frankie Pickett are scarce due to being stolen or destroyed by Union soldiers during the War of Northern Aggression. His grave is beside Mark Pickett, his father, in the family graveyard at 1 Learned Place, Durham, NC.

He was married to Elizabeth Frances "Frankey" HERNDON (daughter of William HERNDON and Hannah HUTCHINS) on 30 NOV 1821 in Orange County, NC. Witness: Mark pickett, Jos. A. Woods Elizabeth Frances "Frankey" HERNDON was born on 8 SEP 1806 in Orange County, NC. She died on 23 JUN 1879 in Orange County, NC. She was buried after 23 JUN 1879 in Pickett Cemetery, 1 Learned Place, Durham, NC. Henry "Harry" PICKETT and Elizabeth Frances "Frankey" HERNDON had the following children:
