When I entered a search in Ancestry for Lottie Monds, I immediately found something that will help you a lot. It is the death certificate for "Duck Evander Monds". Do you have full access to Ancestry? If so, go to this link:

You'll see that "Duck Evander Monds, husband of Lotti Monds, died June 15, 1941 of a Cerebral hemorrhage. He was born in Cumberland County, NC 1875, the son of William Monds and Effie Hair.
He is listed as "Duncan Monds" on the 1930 census for Carvers Creek, NC. You are right that he was much older than Lottie -- he was 66 and she was 20!

They were married around 1925 (the 1930 census indicates that he was 61 and she was 15 when they married.)
