Hi, I'm working on three lines from Edgecombe Co., NC- the descendants of Aaron Odom (d 1791 Edgecombe Co., NC), the descendants of Edward Sketoe (lived in Edgecombe Co., NC in mid to late 1700's), and the descendants of John Stringer Sr., who lived in Chowan and later Edgecombe Co., NC where he died in the 1780's.
Aaron Odom was associated with several of the old Odom family from Chowan Co., NC. A Richard Odom left a will dated 12 August 1727 in Chowan Co., NC, and probated 24 January 1728. It is believed that he was the grandfather of Aaron Odom of Edgecombe Co., NC. Richard Odom came down to Colonial North Carolina at the turn of the 18th Century from Nansemond Co., Virginia.
The Children of Aaron Odom (his wife's name may have been Frances) were:
Aaron Odom Jr.
Ann (Odom) Pittman
Keziah (Odom) Sketoe
Jane (Odom) Sketoe
They were named in Aaron Odom's estate settlements (dated 1791/1792) in Edgecombe Co., NC. I descend from Jane (Odom) Sketoe, wife of Revolutionary War Veteran, William Sketoe, who died in Muhlenberg Co., KY in 1826. Any help on these families will be much appreciated.
Aaron Odom Jr. was the Revolutionary War Pensioner who lived in Williamsburgh District, South Carolina in the early 1800's, where he applied for pension in 1818, and in 1823 he was age 67, born NC.
Dempsey Odom also remained in Edgecombe Co., NC, where he was named in his brother, Abraham's will (1826).
Richard Odom died in Edgecombe Co., NC ca 1816 (according to the Estate Records).
Absalom Odom may also have moved to the Williamsburgh District of South Carolina, where one Absalom Odom may be found on the 1810 Census.
Elisha & John Odom's whereabouts in their adult lives after leaving Edgecombe Co., NC are presently unknown.
Keziah (Odom) Sketoe may have married Joseph Sketoe (brother of William Sketoe) who also moved to Muhlenberg Co., KY where he died. Joseph Sketoe was also a Revolutionary War Veteran from the State of North Carolina.
Ann (Odom) Pittman's family is presently unidentified.
Jacob Odom (s/o Aaron Sr.) seems to be the Revolutionary War Pensioner (B 1762 in Edgecombe Co., NC, who moved to Georgia in 1802 for 7 years, then to Hickman Co., TN for 14 yrs., then to Lincoln Co., TN for 12 yrs., then to Dickson Co., TN for 1 yr. then to Pickens Co., AL where he applied for his pension in 1832.
The son Abraham Odom remained in the Edgecombe Co., NC where he left a will dated 24 Dec 1826.
These families seem to have been somehow related to the family of Aaron Ma(y)ner of Edgecombe Co., NC. Any suggestions welcomed in furthering the research of this large Edgecombe Co. family.
