Mr. Joseph Brian Shanahan, 77, of Winston-Salem, formerly of River Vale, N.J., died peacefully with his family present Thursday, May 20, 2004, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
He was born Dec, 7, 1926, in Ottowa, Kan. Mr. Shanahan retired in 1986 after a successful career as an executive with ITT Corp. in New York City. He had lived in Winston-Salem since 1988 and was an avid golfer his entire life.
Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Karla Shanahan; three sons, Dennis Shanahan of North Potomac, Md., Kevin Shanahan of Carlsbad, Calif., and Michael Shanahan of La Mesa, Calif.; a daughter, Kathleen Lindner of Berlin, Germany; and four grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, with the Rev. Conall McHugh officiating. Entombment will follow in Salem Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Daybreak Ministries, c/o Centenary United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 658, Winston-Salem, NC 27102. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
