Christian Schmidt is my great x 5 grandfather. Since he was born in 1745, he would have been 5 years old when his son Peter was born if we are to believe that our Peter was the one born in 1750 in Lancaster PA and immigrated to NC with his parents. I think we are talking about two different Peter Smiths. Since Christian Schmidt died and was buried in Bethabara, NC, the original Moravian settlement in NC, I believe he immigrated from Prussia in 1754 to NC. In "Records of the Moravians in North Carolina" there is a list of the names of 26 Moravian immigrants to North Carolina made up from certificates of land grants in the Herrnhut (Saxony) archives. This list includes the name of Christian Schmidt, born in Stettin, Prussia, who immigrated in 1754 with the group. Christian Schmidt was married, before Anna Leinbach, to Anna Helena Grundling with whom he had all his children, including Peter. She died in 1790 in Bethabara, NC.
