No other info can be found other than possible connections

Mr. Donald Reid Puckett, 54, of West Dodson Mill Road, Pilot Mountain, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2008, after an extended illness.

He was born January 4, 1954, in Forsyth County, to Bertha Hall Puckett Thomas and the late A. Ralph Puckett.

He is survived by his daughter, Desiree Annette Puckett of Mount Airy; his mother, Bertha Hall Puckett Thomas; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rebecca Puckett Johnson of Winston-Salem, Robin and Timothy Tesh of Germanton; three brothers, Charles Puckett of Mount Airy, Arnold Lee Puckett of Cana, VA, and Keith Puckett of Fancy Gap, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Mr. Puckett was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon “Sherry” Towe Puckett; and his stepfather, Robert W. Thomas.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, November 16, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. David Raiford, and burial will follow in the Mount Bethel Moravian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, November 15, 2008, from 7:00 until 9:00 at the funeral home.

KING - Mrs. Vallie Warden Spainhour, 89, formerly of Hwy 66 South, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center.

Mrs. Spainhour was born in Forsyth County on February 17, 1919, the daughter of the late Riley Welborn and Carrie Fulk Warden.

She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church and attended while her health permitted. She retired from Hanes Hosiery with a number of years of service.

Mrs. Spainhour was preceded in death by her husband Oscar Branson "O.B."(Brack) Spainhour in 2001 and a son Wayne Spainhour.

Surviving are three daughters, Brenda (Larry) Custer of Vinton, VA., Becky (A.G.) Belcher of Winston-Salem and Vicki (Mike) Warren of King. six grandchildren, Rodney Middleton, Chad Middleton, Brad Barr, Brian Barr. Michael Todd Warren and Amanda (Josh) Collins, twelve great-grandchildren and a sister Nonnie Lee of High Point.

A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 7, 2008, at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Charles C. Penley, Jr. and Rev. Hahhy Salmons officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The Spainhour family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home and at other times at her daughter' s home, Vicki Warren in King.

He was born May 26, 1959 in Forsyth County to Carl Ray and Betty Jean Marshall Horton.

Surviving are two children, Shannon Horton and fianc?, Wayne Shelton, and Michael Horton, Jr. and wife, Chassie; four grandchildren: Adriannah Horton, Alexi Shelton, Carleigh Jean Shelton, and Kason Horton; three sisters, Kathy Riggins, Linda Hensley, and Susan Yountz; and one brother, Gene Horton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening, Monday, November 10, at Calvary Baptist Church in King. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at 2 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Roger Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery. (Slate Funeral Home).

Caitlyn was preceded in death by a brother, Carter Gene Ayers.

Along with her parents, she is survived by a brother, Carson Layne Ayers; maternal grandparents, Rev. Daniel and Judith Salmon "PeePaw and MeeMaw"; paternal grandparents, Ronnie and Verlie Ayers; paternal great-grandparents, Ray and Minnie Lee Ayers; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday, November 15, at Harvest Temple Church of God in King with the Rev. Daniel Salmon and the Rev. Beth Spainhour officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. (Slate Funeral Home).

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Viola Floyd Spaugh, 98, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, in Portsmouth.

She was a native of Winston-Salem and a member of Home Moravian Church. She was the wife of the late Gilbert D. Spaugh and was predeceased by their two sons, Gilbert D. Spaugh Jr. and Raymond Spaugh.

She is survived by eight grandchildren; and numerous
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside funeral service will be held at noon Saturday by the Rev. Daniel Spaugh at Home Moravian Church Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the church. Loving Funeral Home in Portsmouth, Va., is handling the arrangements.

DOBSON — Mr. Michael Holt, 41, of Dobson, passed away on Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Forsyth County on Nov. 10, 1966, to Henry Edward Holt and Frances Holt Nunn Flynn.

Michael worked as a volunteer and was a member of Church of God Prophecy.

He is survived by his father, Henry Edward Holt of Mount Airy; mother and stepfather, Frances and Robert Arnold Flynn of Dobson; two brothers, Danny Holt of Dobson and Kenneth Holt of Mount Airy; one half brother, James Nunn of Dobson; one stepbrother, Timothy Nunn of Brown Mountain; a stepsister, Terry Fulp of Danbury; and his sister in his heart, “Sissy” Teresa Smallwood.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Tucker and the Rev. Bobby Joe Shinault conducting the service with interment to follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive family and friends Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Liberty Baptist. MARION - James Kelly Wilkinson, 80, of 280 Broad St. died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Asheville.

Born in McDowell County to the late Jay French and Flora Etta Brooks Wilkinson, he was one of the owners of Etta Paper Box Co. and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Marion.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Mystic Tie Lodge No. 237 of Marion.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Williams Wilkinson; two sons, James Kelly Wilkinson Jr. and Robert Preston Wilkinson, both of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Dorothy Jean Wilkinson of Boone, and Deborah Butler of Morganton; and seven grandchildren, Keith Robinson, Joshua Butler, Ray Butler, Travis Butler, Kelly Wilkinson, Laura Wilkinson, and Alex Wilkinson.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at Marion First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. George Hutchins will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 124 W. Fort St., Marion, NC 28762. ELKIN - Mrs. Hazel Jarvis Mathis, age 93, formerly from Victoria Street Elkin, passed away October 16, 2008 at Wilkes Senior Village.

Mrs. Mathis was born January 21, 1915 in Winston-Salem to Grover and Lona Jarvis.

Mrs. Mathis graduated from Clemmons High School. She married Fleet Mathis on April 9, 1939 and was married for 68 years until he passed away on April 22, 2007. Hazel and Fleet worked for Chatham Manufacturing in Winston-Salem and moved to Elkin when the finishing operations moved here in 1940. After raising their four children, she went to work at Brinegar Cabin on the Blue Ridge Parkway and after several years became the co-manager, retiring in 1986. She was known for making cross stitch pillows and weaving rugs. She and Fleet enjoyed Elkin First Baptist Church where they were members, golfing and traveling.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Spencer Jarvis, G.W. "Buddy" Jarvis, Woodrow Jarvis, and Pete Jarvis; and three sisters; Mabel Watson, Ruth Southard and Lillian Saylor.

Survivors include: two sons, John Mathis and wife, Luann, Davis Mathis and wife, Diane all of Elkin; two daughters, Sara Carter and husband, Stony of Elkin, Sally Hutchens of Winston-Salem; a sister, Lois Hunter and husband, John of Clemmons; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, October 19, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Elkin First Baptist Church by Dr. Bill Johnson and the Rev. Rebecca Maynard. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Mrs. Mathis will lie In-state 30 minutes prior to the service. SILOAM—Mrs. Doris Mae Benton Abee Snow, 78, of Siloam, widow of the late James Cleveland Snow, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

She was born in Forsyth County on December 28, 1929 to the late George Branford Benton and Grace Vashti Covington Benton.

Doris was a retired social worker for the U.S. Federal Government. She served as a model for the Montgomery Ward Company as well as on the steering committee for Surry Community College. She worked with the Democratic Women’s Organization, served as an advisor for Congressman Steve Neal on problems concerning the elderly, and founded and lead the Piedmont Neuropathy Support Group. Doris lead an immense devotion and love for her family.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, George and Gail Abee of Rural Hall; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lu Anne and Jonathan Smith of Siloam, and Patti and David Stanley of Siloam; eight grandchildren, Michael Alderman, Shawn Abee, Eric, Ryan, and Amber Smith, Joshua, Shane, and Kevin Stanley; four great-grandchildren, Nicole Abee, Matthew and Adam Alderman, and Alexis Stanley, and special friends Millie Erlacher, Elmer Vestal, and Ive\ry Scott.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. at Siloam Baptist Church on Sunday, Oct. 12 with the Rev. Bill Faw conducting the service with interment to follow in the church cemetery. WINSTON-SALEM — Florence Edith Jones Brown, 88, went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Sept. 16, 2008.

She was born April 25, 1920, a daughter of the late Lacy Franklin Jones Sr. and Alice Vivian Edwards Jones.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Paul Allen Brown.

She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Brown Curtiss (Jim) of Wilmington, Judith Brown Shields (Tommy) of Winston-Salem and Carol Brown Middleton (Robert) of Stoneville. Surviving are a son, John Henry Heath and fiancée, Katie Timmons of Pilot Mtn.; her mother, Jessie Pearl Speer Carter of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Robert Easter, Jr. of Mount Airy; fiancé, J.C. She was born in Forsyth County on October 2, 1923, to the late Lee and Beulah Wood Blackburn.

She was a member of Shoaly Branch Baptist Church and retired from Lucia, and later work at Lisa' s Daycare for over 5 years.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Orville W. Norman, three brothers; Talmadge, Walter "Peanut", Raymond and Max Blackburn. A Infant sister and a son-in-law: James Martin.

She is survived by her children; Kay Martin-Enloe and husband Johnny, Steve (Becky) Norman, and Teddy (Phyllis) Norman all of Elkin, Sam (Phyllis) of Cleveland Tenn.

Funeral Services will be conducted 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church by Rev. Dan Merritt , Rev. Jess Miles and Rev. Kenny Wood. The Norman Family will receive friends form 1 to 3, prior to the Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Shoaly Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Pauline Higgins Darnell, 85, died September 25, 2008 at her residence in King.

Daughter of the late John Aaron and Treva Peoples Higgins, she was born in Forsyth County on August 8, 1923.

Mrs. Darnell was retired from the N. C. Baptist Hospital.

She was preceded in death by a son, John Aaron Darnell and her husband, Albert Richard Darnell.

Surviving are two daughters: Judy D. Speas and husband, Junior, and Mardi D. White, all of King; four grandchildren: Gerri S. Vaden and husband, Jimmy, of Germanton, Jolena S. Arrington and husband, Mike, of King, Melanie and Benjamin White, also of King; and two great-grandchildren: Cody Newsome and Johnny Arrington. In addition, she is survived by a sister, Geraldine Templeton of Germanton, and several very special nieces and nephews.

WALKERTOWN - Ms. Sandra Faye Shumaker Mabe, 59, passed away quietly in her sleep on Tuesday, September 16, 2008.

She was born December 28, 1948 the daughter of the late Walter Lee Shumaker and Lona Faye Huie Shumaker.

Sandra was a loving mother, sister and friend. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Kim Tilley and husband Todd of King, four brothers: David Brown of Walnut Cove; Bobby Brown of Hays; Barry Shumaker of Thomasville; and Gary Shumaker of Winston-Salem. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

There will be no formal funeral services. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon -1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help with final expenses to her daughter, Kim Tilley.

Mr. Alfred William “Al” Southern, age 63, of Elkin went to be with his Lord on Sunday evening September 14, 2008 at his home.

He was born in Forsyth Co. on March 19, 1945 to the late James Raleigh Southern and to Pauline Martin Southern..

He attended School in Winston Salem and where was a member of the First Baptist Church. He then attended Chowan College. Later he moved to Georgia to work for Roadway Express as terminal manager. He then returned to N.C. and worked at N.C. Foam Industries for fourteen years. He loved this job more than all the others, and had many wonderful friends.

KING - Inez LaVerne Doby Marler, 65, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008,
Mrs. Inez LaVerne Doby Marler passed away at Village Care, in King. She resided there for the past six years.

Mrs. Marler was born on November 15, 1942 in Forsyth County to the late Alexander and Lucy Campbell Doby.

She attended the First Church of Nazarene. She enjoyed crafts and ceramics, as well as teaching. Her biggest joy was animals and helping them.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Wilford Doby.

Surviving Mrs. Marler is her loving husband of 48 years, C.G. Marler of the home; daughter, Tremilla Hill and husband James of Marietta, Ohio; sons, LeGrande Marler and wife Marsha of Winston- Salem and David Marler and wife Debbie of Pilot Mountain; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at Vogler and Sons Funeral Home on Reynolda Road. Interment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday evening. I am looking for information about Mrs. Ada Day (a nurse) and her husband who was a judge (John Tucker Day). They lived in the big home at 5050 Dippen Road which was later owned by the Yeager Family and is now for sale. I think the Days were married in 1927. She lived into the 1950s and I don't know when he died.

Mrs. Cleo Turner McBride, 82 of Winston-Salem passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

She was born in Forsyth County, on May 6, 1926, to the late Calvin Howard and Minnie Sheets Turner.

Mrs. McBride was a member of Konnoak Baptist Church. She was a charter member and helped establish Forsyth County Genealogical Society in 1982, serving as treasurer for 20 years. She was instrumental in publishing journals and transcribing Census Reports.

Mrs. McBride was preceded in death by her husband, William Marshall McBride whom she married on January 27, 1951. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Perry Lee Turner and Hubert H. Turner.

She is survived by her nephew, Perry L. Turner, Jr. and his wife Phyllis of Clemmons, and two god-sons, Joseph Henry Weathers and his wife Amy of Columbia Falls, Montana and Samuel Thomas Dixon and his wife Suzanne of Denver, NC, as well as several other nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller, Silas Creek Chapel, with Dr. Ray Hamilton officiating. Mr. Peyton Farrington Poe, 88, of The Elms at Tanglewood, formerly of 5017 Lochraven Drive, Winston-Salem died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center.

A native of Forsyth County, he was the son of the late Henry Edgar Poe and Eulala Childress Poe.

He retired from Smurfit Stone Container Corp. in 1979 after 46 years of service. He worked concurrently at Stabler Pontiac, Cloverdale Ford and Stabler Motors from 1948 to 1985. During World War II he was a Block Warden in North Winston and worked in the defense industry. Mr. Poe was a member of Fairview Moravian Church, Winston-Salem Masonic Lodge and Hillcrest Golf Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James F. Poe and a sister, Margaret Poe Foy, both of Winston-Salem.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Virginia West Poe, also of The Elms; three sons, Harold G. Poe Sr. and wife Cathy of Shelby, Phillip Wayne Poe of Venice, Fla., and Steven Farrington Poe of Winston-Salem; and two daughters, Brenda P. Jones and husband Marion of Charlotte and Jennifer P. Church and husband David of Advance. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at Fairview Moravian Church in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Bowers was born in Forsyth County on June 30, 1958, to Russell Johnson Atkins and Ivey Jean Lewis Atkins.

She had a heart for caring for people. Mrs. Bowers was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and a volunteer for Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. She was a member of Order Of Comfort Roses (OCR), devoting time to do memorial services for Confederate Soldiers and places flags and flowers on their graves.

Surviving are her parents Russell Johnson Atkins and Ivey Jean Lewis Atkins Ararat; Grandfather Cecil Atkins of Ararat; Several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and many special friends.

Mrs. Bowers was preceded in death by her Grandparents Victor John Lewis, Stella Mae Lewis, and Lydia Mae Atkins.

She was a member of Oak Level Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by two husband, Jesse Holcomb, and Roscoe Triplett, a daughter, Shirley Powell, a brother, Melvin Tucker.

She is survived by a sister, Irene (Worth) Sebastian, two brothers, Carl (Linda) Tucker, Johnny (Joann) Tucker. Special Son-in-law, Jerry Powell, three grandchildren; Johnny, Tina, and Laura, several nieces and nephews. Special girls thought of as daughters; Lisa Owens, and Sandra Adams.

Mrs. Katharine Dimelow Fichtmueller, 86, of Thornbrook Lane died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Fichtmueller was the widow of Fredrick A. Fichtmueller. M

rs. Fichtmueller was born in White Plains, N.Y., on Jan. 15, 1915, the daughter of the late Harry and Lucy Elder Dimelow.

She was of the Lutheran faith. Mrs. Fichtmueller was a graduate of Barnard College in New York where she received a degree in chemistry and Wagner College in New York where she received a degree in elementary education, and had also attended Vasser College in New York. She taught at the Staten Island Academy in Staten Island, N.Y., for a number of years.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Frank Longman of Tobaccoville; a son-in-law, Harry DiTolla of Plainville, Conn.; four grandchildren, David and Dawn Longman of Tobaccoville, Drs. Jeffery and Kristin Longman of Wilmington, Dr. Kimberly and Douglas Partridge of Connecticut, and Christopher and Victoria DiTolla of Plainville, Conn.; and a great-granddaughter, Kayla Ann DiTolla. Mrs. Fichtmueller was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann DiTolla; and a grandson, Daniel Longman.

He was born in Forsyth County to Lynne Watson and Gene L. Pack.

He graduated from Carver High School and was vice president/supervisor of B&J Builders. He attended New Birth Baptist Church. Brian was involved with the Walkertown Wolfpack and Little League where he enjoyed his boys playing football and baseball. He raced car No. 81 in the modified division at Bowman Gray and was on the Wheelen Tour.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Kathryn and Wayne Watson; paternal grandparents Gladys and Jim Pack; and uncle Johnny Pack.

On Saturday, July 26, 2008, Deborah Ann Long Marshall died peacefully at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

She was born Aug. 2, 1956, in Forsyth County to the late Jack Edwin Long and Mrs. JoAnn Whisenant Long.

Most recently, Deborah worked at home, helping her husband, David, with his construction business. Before that, she was the lead operator at Hayward Pools. She deeply cared for animals and dearly loved her daughter, Montana. Deb will be remembered mostly for her infectious laugh and for her beautiful smile.

Deborah leaves behind her loving husband, David; and daughter Montana of the home; mother JoAnn W. Long; sister Jackie Linville and husband Eddie, all of Walkertown; and nephew Josh Linville and wife Amy of Kernersville.

She was born Jan. 24, 1957, to the late Sam Perrying and Betty Lou Bowman Pack.

Surviving are her husband of 35 years, Hersil Junior Butcher of the home; three sons, Hersil Brent Butcher of Winston-Salem; Brad Junior Butcher of King; and Kevin Mathew Butcher of Powhatan, Va.; two daughters-in-law, Wendy and Sara; five grandchildren, Dylan, Dawn, Breanna, Samantha and Matthew Butcher; 10 siblings, Shirley, Icy, Jerry, Jimmy, Judy, Samuel, Mary, Mike, Lora and Harvey; and many nieces and nephews.

Surviving are her son, Dillon Parker of Dobson; her devoted and loving mother, Patty Isaacs of the home; her father and stepmother, Timothy and Margaret Riggs of Winston-Salem; her husband, Mitchell Parker of Dobson; maternal grandparents, Ray and Bertie Isaacs of Mount Airy; her paternal grandparents, Kathryn Mathis of King and Frank and Jessie Riggs of Mount Airy; her husband’s parents, Pat and Tim Parker of Dobson; aunts and uncles, Lucy Hice of Mount Airy, John Hice of Lowgap, Michelle and David Oxendine of Dobson, and Timmy and Jennifer Isaacs; special cousins, Keisha Hice and Austin Isaacs; and a wonderful caregiver, Sheila Husky, whom “we couldn’t have done without.”

KING - Mr. Raymond A. Jones, 75, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008.

He was born Jan. 20, 1933, in Forsyth County to Robert Monroe and Beatrice Elizabeth Dalton Jones.

Raymond was a member of Christ Covenant Church. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of King Masonic Lodge 722, Scottish Rite Valley of Winston-Salem, and was Past Patron of King Chapter 328 Order of the Eastern Star.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Robert Monroe Jones II and Russell Jones; and a sister, Faith Brame.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Allgood (Jenny) Jones of the home; a daughter, Vicki Lynn (Richard) Harding of Hallettsville, Texas; two granddaughters, Kristen Heather Statius-Muller and Erin Celeste Statius-Muller, both of Holland; and a great-grandson, Aaron Cosslet of Holland.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Slate Funeral Home in King, with Minister John Snow officiating. Burial with military and Masonic rites will follow in King Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening, June 20, at Slate Funeral Home. Researching John Milton Trogdon

Does anyone know any information regarding John Milton Trogdon's 2nd and 3rd wives. Let me tell you what I know right now:
John Milton Trogdon's 1st wife was Mary Kemp. They are both buried at Brower's Chapel United Meth Church, Randolph County.

After Mary Kemp was killed, John relocated to Forsyth County, where his son Carl Dewitt Trogdon operated a sawmill. Carl remarried a Nell Garner in Forsyth County and their last know address was Walkertown Road.

John Milton met his 2nd and 3rd wives in Forsyth Co. His second wife was always called Grandma Willard. That is all I know. I don't know if Willard was her first name or last name. It is my understanding that she was a housekeeper for my great aunt Ruth Kinney Couch who also lived in Forsyth Co. I think Ruth Couch's husband may have been a lawyer.

Grandma willard died and John Milton married a 3rd time. This woman may have been Ann. I remember my Grandma Ada Blanche Kinney Trogdon mentioning something about John and Ann.

John finally died in Forsyth Co. because his son Carl supposedly was caring for him in his home on Walkertown Road.

These marriages took place sometime between 1930 and 1957.

Also there should be an archived obituary on Carl Dewitt Trogdon and John Milton Trogdon. If anyone can help me locate that I would be very greatful. These are a couple of the puzzle pieces I have been looking for.

MOUNT AIRY - Mr. Wesley Stephen "Steve" Taylor of Mount Airy died Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Central Continuing Care.

He was born May 14, 1930, in Forsyth County to Wesley Stephen and Verna Elizabeth May Taylor.

Steve was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War. He was a member and former elder of First Presbyterian Church in Mount Airy. He was formerly a deacon of the same church. His work within the church entailed many mission-oriented activities. He had been supportive of the historic preservation and restoration work in Mount Airy for many years. He was a charter member of the Historical Society and was the president for three years. He also served the Mount Airy Restoration Foundation as a director where he was a charter member. He served as a committee member for the Historic Preservation Group for the City of Mount Airy. He served the Salvation Army as an advisory board member, having given of his voluntary time at the Citadel during Christmas seasons. Steve was also a member of the Board of Directors serving as Social Services chairman for the Mount Airy TPA post. He was a member of Mount Airy Lions Club. He served as a regent member for Barium Springs Home for Children. Locally, Steve can be most remembered for his devotion toward the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Scoutmaster of Troop 540, having served in that position for 21 years. After that, he volunteered in several leadership roles for the Dogwood District of the Boy Scouts. He was a recipient of many scouting awards, including the Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver.

He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Virginia T. Calhoun in 1984 and Louise T. Scott in 1998; and an infant son, Nathan Anderson Taylor, in 1960.

He is survived by his wife, Libby B. Taylor; their two sons, Stephen Christopher of Winston-Salem and Stuart Austin of Winston-Salem; and a grandson, Christopher Adam of Winston-Salem. He is also survived by nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, at the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Airy, with Dr. Steve Lindsley officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Monday night, June 9, at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Barium Springs Home for Children, Box 1, Barium Springs, NC 28010; First Presbyterian Church, Box 1286, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or a charity of the donor' s choice. Mr. James Franklin Fletcher, 81, of 4825 Dippen Road died Friday, April 2, 2004, after an eight-month illness.

Mr. Fletcher was born June 17, 1922, in Forsyth County to James "Ham" Fletcher and Clara Mae Stirewalt Fletcher. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the 2nd Armored Division under Gen. George Patton and in the Battle of the Bulge.

A member of Oak Grove Moravian Church since 1962, he served on various committees and church boards. He was employed by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 33 years, retiring in 1983. Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher enjoyed traveling worldwide.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gracie Kiger Fletcher, of the home; a daughter, Frankie Petree, of Winston-Salem; an adopted daughter and great-granddaughter, Jessie Fletcher of the home; a stepdaughter, Jean (Richard) Fulp, of Walkertown; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Lige) Boswell, Clint (Shannon) Petree and Debbie (Jesse) Poindexter; five great-grandchildren, James Fletcher Burgess, Katie Priddy, Zack Priddy, Angel Neal and Christopher Neal; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Ashley and Nicholas Dawson; and an expected great-great-grandchild, Haileigh Elizabeth. In addition, he is survived by a sister, Gladys (Tom) Breeden, of Randleman; and a brother, Bob (Susan) Fletcher, of Greensboro.

The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 4, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, April 5, at Oak Grove Moravian Church by the Rev. Matthew Allen, the Rev. Charles Fishel and the Rev. Norman Byerly. KING - Mr. Donald Jerry Witt, 70, of King died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center.

Born Aug. 22, 1937, in Winston-Salem, Mr. Witt was a son of the late Jerry Witt and Mittie Everhart Witt. Mr. Witt was the youngest of nine children.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve and retired from Wachovia Bank after many years of service.

Mr. Witt is survived by a son, Mike Witt, and his wife, Lesley, of Kernersville; and two grandsons, Ryan and Connor Witt.

Graveside services for Mr. Witt will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Winston Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216. Online condolences may be made at www.cumbyfuneral.com. National Stanley Family Reunion to be held in Greensboro NC.

A family reunion of the descendents of Thomas Stanley Sr. the immigrant that settled in Hanover County Virginia will be held June 20 and 21st. at Guilford College in Greensboro NC. His known children were James, Thomas Jr. John and possible Jacob, Joseph and Mary. Many of his descendants moved from Virginia to Guilford County NC. In the mid to late 1700 and later settled in Forsyth, Surry, Stokes and Yadkin counties in North Carolina and the adjacent Virginia counties of Henry, Patrick, and Carroll. This national reunion is held annually in locations around the country that have a significant Stanley historical background. All Stanley descendants in the area are encouraged to take advantage of this National Reunion while it is in Greensboro to learn about your family and enjoy the opportunity of meeting relatives from several states.

ARART - Mr. Jeffery Coleman Ring, of Ararat, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at his mother's home.

He was born in Forsyth County to Peggy O'Neal Ring and the late Ralph Coleman Ring.

He is survived by his mother, two sisters and brother-in-law, Sandra Riddle and husband Michael Riddle and Pamela Ring Hutchens; one brother, Gregory Lewis Ring; one special niece and care giver Melissa Ann Stanley; several other special nieces and nephews; a special aunt and second mom, Virginia C. O'Neal; and other special aunts Virginia Ring Jones, Emma Shinault Ring, and Ruby Crissman O'Neal.

Preceding him in death was his father and his infant sister, Janice O'Neal Ring.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 28, 2008, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain and other times at the mother's home. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Pine Hill Friends with Pastor Michael Thames, the Rev. Billy Britt and the Rev. Roger Miller conducting the service with interment to follow at the Church Cemetery. Mr. James Franklin Naylor age 72 of 178 Fairlane Drive, Mt. Airy, NC husband of Mrs. Shelby Jean Kaylor Naylor passed away Thursday morning,, March 20, 2008 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

He was born December 20, 1935 in Forsyth County, NC to the late Cicero Franklin and Nancy Joines Naylor.

Mr. Naylor was retired from Proctor Silex and was a member of Fancy Gap Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the US Marines.

Surviving are his wife, Shelby Jean Naylor of the home, two daughters, Diane Dent, Winston-Salem, and Veronica June Sawyers, Winston-Salem, a son, James Franklin Naylor, Jr., Winston-Salem, several grandchildren, several great grandchildren, a brother and a sister-in-law, Kenneth E. and Barbara Naylor, Winston-Salem, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Naylor was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Lee Naylor.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, March 24, 2008 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mt. Airy conducted by Rev. Dwight Sechrist. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. MOUNT AIRY - Mr. Benton "Albert" Horton, 83, of Mount Airy passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008, at the Salisbury V.A. Medical Center.

Mr. Horton was born in Forsyth County on June 16, 1924, to the late Ellis and Effie Martin Horton.

He served in the U.S. Army from March 1944 to November 1947. He was a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 61, and a member of Faith Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Horton was preceded in death by two daughters, Shirley McKeithan and Rosie Inez Horton; and a great-grandson, Brandon Lee Horton.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Leavie Goins Horton of the home; a daughter, Irene Boyd; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ellis and Kathy Horton and Roy Horton, all of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren, David Horton, Terry Horton, Rocky Horton, Misty Taylor, Wendy Venable, Stephanie Bray and Jeremy McKeithan and a special grandson, Willie Gwyn; a stepgrandchild, Angela Tickle; nine great-grandchildren, Colburn Gwyn, Sydney Gwyn, Camden Taylor, Lacey Taylor, Heather Horton, Alicia Horton, Madison Bray, Jayden McKeithan and Ethan Venable; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Brooke and Blake Tickle and Cody McKeithan; a sister, Elsie McKnight of Roanoke, Va.; and a special sister-in-law, Betty Noah of Walkertown.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Ben Simmons and the Rev. Randy Edwards officiating.
