Looking for info on Betty Lou walker born August 25 1885 died December 12 1942 buried in Bessemer City Cemetery. She was raised by Dan Shuler. She married Andy Pilkey (Pilkington) in Feb 1905. Simon Abernethy/Abernathy was a son of Shadrack. Simon was born in 1815, Lincoln Co. He had a number of children that can be found in the census reports for 1860, 1870 & 1880. Included is a set of twin daughters, Nancy & Rachael, born in 1867. They last appear together in the 1880 report; at that time, Simon's wife Mary is shown as a widow. I have not found this family as a unit after that. My interest is to determine what happened to Nancy & Rachael after 1880. Can anyone help me with this?

I entered a total of 554 names; the original listing and many names that were discovered during the process.

It was, is and always has been my intent and puropose that the work I did would be available to anyone and everyone who has an interest in and desire to access this information. I had hoped that it would be available free of charge online in some form or fashion indefinately. I was very disappointed when it was removed. The listing was freely given to me in a random act of genealogical kindness and it has always been my desire to share it. Many of my ancestors from many branches of my family are buried at Bethel.

Therefore, I have once again poured over the names and dates and put them where I hope is a safe place, where anyone and everyone with an interest can come see for themselves the information that is contained.

I have embellished the records with information from my own files and have included parentage, marriages and children where I had that information. I sincerely hope that it will be put to good use.

The good Lord willing, the creek don’t rise, and Find-A-Grave doesn’t get blown off the internet; the information I have entered there will remain indefinetly, free for everyone’s use.

I am also looking for information about the Rev. Fain Farmer, Charles Ingle, Kenneth Anthony from Hardin Baptist Church who performed the funeral service for Della C. Propst in January 1982. Apparently Rev. Kenneth Anothony also performed the funeral service for Nellie M. Coleman in Dec. 1988.

Since Rev. Anthony appears to have been involved in both the sisters' funerals, he may have known the family fairly well.

Seeking info on Thomas G Glover (b. 1856, SC) who married Susan M Byron (Biram/Byrom?) b. 1850, SC. Names as shown on tombstone in Gaston Co, NC. Names vary for her: In 1910 census, she's listed as Margaret S. Glover, wife. Sons were John Franklin and Thomas Henry and stepdau, Allice Byron (in 1880 census, Fairfield Township, SC).

They moved to Gaston Co, NC and had daughters Anna, Cora, Etta, son Charles, etc. who are listed in later census.

I'm descended from Dovie Bumgarner (b 1851) who married Miles Abernethy. She has a sister named Ann Bumgarner. She is the daughter of Wallace Bumgarner and Jemimah LeFever. Jemimah's parents are unknown. Wallace is the son of Moses Bumgarner and Charity Ikerd (Eichert).

Was Dovie an observant Jew? If not, when did the Bumgarner family assimilate? Miles Abernethy certainly was not Jewish.

I was raised Christian, but my family had certain Jewish customs and attitudes that I suspect may have been passed down. Any information would be very greatly appreciated.

My great great grandparent were Joseph Hoffman (b. 9/1832 in NC) and Fannie Holland-Hoffman (b. 1/1833 in NC). There children were:
James Richard Hoffman (2/13/1855 - 1/20/1938) - spouses (Lavinia Holland-Hoffman(b.1852) and Nancy Jane Humphrey-Hoffman (b. 3/1863))
Sarah Hoffman (b. 1858) She died before 1900
George Washington Hoffman (11/1858 - 2/10/1914) - spouse (Susan Stowe-Hoffman (b. 12/1858))
Nancy Hoffman-Pasour (1/1860 - 8/06/1935) - spouse (Martin Pasour (b. 1855))
Alice Hoffman (b. 1864) She died before 1900

All the children and most of the grandchildren were born in either Dallas, NC or Gaston, NC. I do not know if Sarah and Alice every married and had children. On the 1900 census it ask Fannie, number of births (5) and number of living children (3).

I know that Joseph's father was Ben Hoffman, but I do not know his mother's name. For Fannie I only know that her maiden name was Holland. I would like to get information about both of their parents and siblings.

For the other 3 children I was able to trace them and their descendants, but any additional information would greatly be appreciated.

I think I may have found my ggggrandmother Esther in the 1860 Gaston Co.NC census. I've been trying to find her with her husband but looks like I missed again. She was 43 in the census with William O'DANIEL age 19, Cornelia age 17 and some more children that the writing makes it hard to read. Looks like Leander-15 plus one more. Mary Elizabeth is listed as Mary(my gggrandmother) at 10 years of age. Other people listed in the household are Harriet ROBINSON-34 and Harriet G. ROBINSON-8. I don't know how they are related, if at all ,to Esther. This is a big break fpr me, hope someone out there recognizes some of this and can shed some light on it! I have Esther in AR in 1861 marrying Joseph Hoyle Mendenhall originally of NC. Mary ended up in AR, but I don't know when, although she married my gggrandfather about

John Harris m Julia A Short in Gaston Co, N.C.

I am looking for info on a John Harris who married Julia Ann Short in 1891 either in the Gaston County, N.C. or in S.C. areas. They had 4 children and and all born in S.C. and then John left after 4th child about 1898. Julia went back to Cherryville, N.C and John stayed in S.C. and may have married again and had other children. Stories say that he came to the US with his mother when he was a child from Scotland and he took his mothers maiden name. Julia was born 1869...do not know about Johns age.

I'm a descendant of Asbury Woods(1854-1921) and Jane Miller(1857-1942)of nearby Caldwell County. He was the son of Newton Woods and Margaret Irene Smith and the grandson of Joseph Woods and Christina Schell. Jane Miller was the daughter of Civil War veteran David L. Miller and Amy Yount. Loray Cemetery - Gaston Co

I have a death certificate for archie Henson, Gaston Co. 1923 which indicates the burial was in Loray (Luray?) cemetery. The undertaker was S. Settlemyer

Family "rumor" that indicates this cemetery may have washed out and ggrandpa had to relocate the grave?

Does anyone have knowledge of this cemetery?

I am searching for the family of soldiers who was killed in the Korea War. When they entered service they gave Gaston County, North Carolina as their home of record.

Soldier:WALLIS JEFFERSON EVANS
Born: September 1, 1932, Caucasian
Date of loss: December 6, 1950, MIA

Soldier: JOHN DANIEL SMITH
Born: Feb. 10, 1912, Caucasian
Date of loss: Jan. 11, 1951, POW

Soldier: JUNIOR RAY TUCKER
Born: JUne 19, 1927, Caucasian
Date of loss: September 22, 1950, MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 68 families in North Carolina that have not been located. There are three families from Gaston County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating these families.

Are We Related?

My parents were Beulah Mae Brown and Ashton Craig "Bud" Davis from Gastonia. Even though they were married, they didn't keep their children, and as far as I know gave 2 up for adoption. Having found the 2 after years of searching, it would be great to find some more (I'm sure there are more because there is 10 years difference between my closest brother and I).

I was born in 52 and my brothers in 37, 39 and 42..so there are gaps between those dates, or even several years before 1937 could be a possibility. I am certain I was the last born, so 1952 is the cut off date.

This couple were baby-making machines apparently. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
